DE VISSCHUUR

We stayed at De Visschur on 18th July 2025. Between 3-4am (19th) the premises was burgled.The panic button was pressed, and armed response 5 hours later. The host was contacted but did not reply until 3 hours later with her only concern for her door and security gate. We booked for 2 nights but departed at 09:36 (19th). Items stolen were covered by host's insurance and was paid 2 months later. The host refused to refund the 1-night stay of 19th.

The house was really cute. It was in a good location - walking distance from the beach and Die Voorstrand restaurant (which is great!) The rooms were well appointed and nicely decorated. We missed having streaming services on the TV, but were hardly there so the DSTV was perfect. We never met the host, but she was quick to respond to text messages and the cleaning staff were also very helpful.

I wasn't sure the alarm was necessary, but it made us feel unsafe that an alarm was required and yet our car couldn't be parked behind a locked gate or garage. I think a little "write up" about the facilities would be helpful - we needed to ask a few questions about the wifi, the braai facilities etc. So perhaps having a document on arrival it would answer a lot of the questions.

We thoroughly enjoyed our brief stay at De Visschuur. Louise was a warm host who was readily available to assist. The accommodation is in a central location - in walking distance to the beach as well as many restaurants and shops. The space is tasteful and very comfortable. Perfect for those with pets (lovely fenced garden).
