Cute, historical, spacious and offering a home away from home in one of the coolest little places in NZ. Incredibly good value for money.

Boutique accommodation with natural lawn mowers

Bed was a bit hard for us, otherwise could have done with a fan or aircon in hot nights.

"Worked for what we needed."

Good kitchen and bathroom facilities. Nice outdoor seating space.

Horribly soft old bed. Wish they had kept a little more of the butcher shop feel

"cosy, historic"

9.0

location and historical value were second to none.

there were one or two dead bugs on a windowsill. and a spider on the bedspread, alive, so i suppose that can’t be helped. i also had a tourist walk up the side where the outdoor furniture is and peer in through the window; perhaps a little gate would be a worthwhile investment

"Historic cottage in beautiful bushland setting"

8.0

Liked the historic town, especially the restored buildings (including the Butcher Shop) with their notices telling us the history of each one. The Butcher Shop was clean, comfortable and well equipped. It isn't The Hilton, but provided a great opportunity to spend some time in an atmospheric and historic building. It was also kind of the owners to provide the makings of a basic breakfast. The pub was also worth a visit, although we thought $37 for a glass of wine and a beer was pretty steep. We also liked the rugged scenery, especially north of Whangamomona.

We knew in advance there was no wifi at the Butcher Shop, but that proved to be a bit of a pain. The owners kindly let us access the wifi from their other building just across the road, but the signal was weak so we spent quite a bit of time sitting in our car near the Bridge House trying to maintain a connection.
