First of all, we have been booking through Booking.com for years, and NEVER before have we failed to clearly understand exactly which accommodation or room we were reserving. We booked this property four months in advance. At the time, there appeared to be only one available option. The furnishings shown in the photos are virtually identical, and nowhere in the main description was it clearly explained that this is actually a building containing three apartments with VERY different characteristics. The apartment description and photos are misleading. The floor level was not stated in the description. The photos and listed amenities suggested a terrace, but nowhere was it made clear that the terrace is shared and that you must climb two flights of stairs to reach it. The first mention of the shared terrace only appeared in the self check-in instructions, when it was already too late to cancel. Contrary to what the host falsely claimed when responding to my complaints, this information was NOT included in the booking confirmation message. Upon arrival, we found ourselves in a claustrophobic basement apartment below street level. It was a complete shock. Only afterwards did I discover where the host had hidden the information about the floor level: in the accessibility section, which most people would only check if they had specific mobility requirements. Even that information is misleading, since there is a step at the building entrance where I actually tripped when arriving at night, while the light switch is located further inside. Key information belongs in the main description. Guests should not have to play detective in order to book with confidence. As for the so-called “sea view apartment,” the sea is visible only as a tiny strip while standing up, beyond parked cars, ruins, and litter. When seated, you cannot see the sea at all because the windows are positioned high on the wall and cannot even be opened normally, only tilted inward.
