"Beautiful farm cottage, but unfortunately the hot water was inconsistent."

8.0

We stayed at the Ouhout cottage. It was just 3 of us. So we had access to two beautiful bedrooms. The third was locked, that was fine. This was one of the most beautifully decorated places we have visited. Everything had a country, cosy vibe. The fire place helped alot with the cold, but because of the cold draft from the stable door and scullery we had to use our heater when eating food by the dinning room table. There were electric heated blankets and oil heaters in the bedrooms. The kitchen was fully equipped. We had 4 eggs, milk and fresh bread on arrival. The rusks and the port was a sweet touch too. Cute cookies on the pillow were found on arrival. They provide dish washing liquid, scourer, bin bags, toilet paper, bath towels and lemon grass soap. Please note you must bring your other toiletries. The TV and wifi was absolutely amazing! Thabi was so friendly and always assisted with a genuine smile. Our electricity tripped a couple times and thankfully it was sorted out quickly so we could warm our food up. And Thabi topped up our milk too for the inconvenience. There is no checklist to go through like other places so you can enjoy the place as soon as you arrive. Parking is under a carport opposite the cottage. The road to get to the cottage is about 1km or so of dirt road. It's about 30km from piggly wiggly. But close enough to the Junction and Blueberry Cafe.

I would have given a higher score, but the hot water was terriblly inconsistent. We had two bathrooms as both rooms are ensuite. We used the shower and the water took very long to get hot and when it did it was boiling hot and when we tried to mix it, it was fine for a minute and then ice cold again. There's no mixer so that wastes water trying to get it at the right temperature with every use. My son had a cold already and I was trying to help him shower and the hot water only lasted for a minute. It was very cold in the bathroom as there is no heating. This was 8h30am. We were advised to not bath so early as it's winter. But the next day we had a shower and although we bathed later the water was still inconsistent. One bathroom had a tub that didn't have a shower. I'm not sure who uses a tub these days especially with water shortages. It would be better to install a shower with a mixer and a screen to make use of the tub as it's not functional for families this way. We are so thankful we brought our own heater too as the cold draft from the gap in the stable doors and from the scullery made having dinner really cold. We are from Durban so our cold is nothing like this. The gap in the stable door is enough to see inside and outside. There were also no keys for the bedroom doors and coming from the city we are not used to this. Thankfully Thabi brought the keys for the bedroom doors. The sofas although gorgeous would pose a challenge to older people trying to wake up from them as they sink backwards at an angle. There's nothing wrong with them, it's just my preference to have deep, firm, flat angled sofas. We wanted to buy some butter from the farm shop, but unfortunately they didn't have availabile. We bought jalepeno peppers and red bell peppers in jars and they didn't taste all that good and unfortunately were in oil not vinegar as I thought it would be.

"Brilliant overall from beginning to end, great cottage to kick back and relax with all the relevant amenities - peaceful"

10.0

Clean, comfortable and with lots of charm and nuance. The cottage had all the relevant amenities and more. There were small touches like farm butter, bread and milk which made us feel really welcome. There was a lot of detailed information about what to do on the farm, the history of the farm and a really convenient addition was a small self service small shop which means you would means you have everything you need without leaving the farm, which allows you to relax and enjoy the cottage and the broader farm.

The cottages are beautifully designed and decorated. Very spacious rooms. Love their bread and the farm produce they provide for the guests (fresh eggs, milk). Deborah is also so such a gracious host🌸

"Beautiful farm stay!"

10.0

Beautiful property, the accommodation was clean and beds were very comfortable. Deborah and the staff were very friendly and helpful. On arrival there was a farm gate at the end of our garden where our dogs could escape, within 30min the gate was sorted out to ensure our dogs could run free without escaping. The farmhouse was beautiful and comfortable. It’s a working farm so we were lucky to see new calf both days.
