Gallery bedroom with only curtains , apartment is rather dark

Lovely airy space, wonderful view, well equipped lovely shower minus the draining problem, comfortable seating. Plenty of pillows, fans were very good, washing machine and dishwasher both very handy. The big window was brill, once you got the hang of opening it. The location was perfect for getting everywhere in Orta. Wine bar right below for appetisers and drinks. Restaurants galore 30 seconds down the street, right on to the main square. The garage parking option, although another hill to climb, was secure and convenient and would definitely recommend it. Overall a very comfortable and convenient place to stay. Not for the faint hearted, those steps are a task at times! But minus the few trivial niggles it was a really lovely place.

Due to the building's age, not much can be done but if you're a light sleeper like myself, you can be easily woken by almost every noise if you're in the double bedroom. It's a gallery bedroom and only curtains separate you from the rest of the apartment. We could hear all the goings on in the wine bar downstairs in the late and early hours and the creaking of wooden floors every time anyone shifted in their bed or went to the toilet. The rest of my party are heavy sleepers so it didn't bother them, but it wasn't easy sleeping for me on most nights. The upstairs toilet had a dodgy flush, had to get the knack of making it come back up to stop it permenantly flushing. Downstairs shower fills quickly as the drain is pretty slow (I have the same style at home and they're useless unfortunately). No smaller mugs? If you wanted tea or coffee it was basically in a bowl with a handle 😂. BEWARE when it rains, the cobbles and the shortcut from the car park are mossy and SLIPPERY.

The friendliness of the hostesses Carola and Veronica was very warming and welcoming and they also picked us up from the train station when we arrived. The location is perfect: in the middle of the city center three minutes from the main square, but still in a small side street so you do not hear the hustle and bustle from the main square and the pedestrian zone. The appartment is on the top floor with big panoramic windows. Everything needed is there including washing machine, and also big bottles of shower cream and shampoo. It is a very old house, from 1567, with lots of character in the stairways.

Two things need to be mentioned though they do not reflect any shortcomings from the owners' side but have to do with the fact that it is an old house. Firstly, the stairs are many and - especially the last one - very steep. For a disabled person it would be almost impossible to get to the appartment, and for those travelling with children and/or heavy luggage it is inconvenient, including the tricky stairs in the living room leading up to the sleeping quarters. Secondly, you hear a lot from your co-travellers (the bedrooms partly have curtains instead of walls) and the guests in the other appartment (the walls seem to be very thin).
