Nunes Apartments

The apartment was clean, large and comfortable, consisting of a living room with sofa and TV, a kitchen (without separation from the living room) with a small table, a quite large bedroom with wardrobe and a bathroom. The apartment was recently refurbished with lots of facilities, including a large fridge and freezer, coffee machine with capsules, microwave oven, oven, outdoor charcoal grill and table, air conditioning both in the living room and in the bedroom. A water bottle and coffee capsules were available at check in. Maybe the only items that you would miss upon a late arrival are shower gel and shampoo. The owner was also super nice and helpful with recommendations on local places and he also immediately replacing the microwave oven upon failure.

It wasn't clear from the description that the whole apartment is located in a basement, with minimal openings for natural light and particularly for fresh air circulation. There are a couple of small top of the wall windows that let some natural light into the living room and bedroom but they cannot be opened. The entrance door has a frosted glass to let some light in, but you would typically keep it shut if you don't want to bee seen from the street. Then there is a not very big window in the kitchen which is nearly the only way to let fresh air in what is a relatively large multi-room flat. There are a couple of small extraction grilles in both the bedroom and the bathroom, without fan and not very effective. This meant that it was difficult to get bad smells and dampness out of the bathroom and that also the bedroom air felt stale. On top of that from time to time some sewage smell came up from the rainwater drain right outside the door, which made its way into the apartment. This was probably due to some issue with the town drainage and mostly outside of the owner's control, but it did add to the poor air quality issues. Luckily heat due to lack of air circulation was not an issue thanks to the air conditioning. Parking was on the street. Sometimes we had to drive a bit up and down the street to find a space, but we always found one within a couple of minutes of walking distance.
