Outside could use some maintenance

This is a large, spacious and beautiful apartment in a 15C Palermo palazzo in La Kalsa that has retained its original beauty and charm, with beautiful original tiled floors, gorgeous old ceramics, the best couches you’ll ever find, enormous, comfortable beds. Though it’s fourth floor, it’s a joy to climb the flights of wide stone stairs past the Madonna and overlooking the 2 courtyards and the arcaded terraces of apartments occupied by the family the own this half of the palazz (the government owns the other half which houses a museum), but you can use the lift if you want to, which was useful for the luggage. Wonderful! In Palermo, this is the sort of place you want to stay. Comfortably accommodated 2 couples. The shower in our en suite was tiny, dictated by the space, but who cares. The other bathroom was more spacious. We didn’t want to leave! We had a car, so parking in the courtyard was a real bonus.

The person called Benedetto who was in charge of the check-in was extremely kind, helpful, and REALLY assisted us, and in particular when we had problems with the Z.T.L for accessing the historical center by car. He arranged it for us and it was much appreciated so a big thank to him for his assistance, responsiveness and his kindness. The size of the appartement is really big and nicely located in the city center. You can easily visit the city by foot once there.

The flat was extremely dirty and not clean at all. We were extremely disappointed, sad and also upset... Obviously, the cleaning is not done, or very rarely, and it is not pleasant to arrive in a place which had not been properly cleaned for weeks, especially when you get charged 150€ for a complete cleaning! This is not acceptable and should be reported because you really have an impression to pay for something which is absolutely not at the minimum level. We have taken a lot of photos to show our good faith and hope the owner will change his business model, because this place had obviously not be cleaned for a very long time. Dust everywhere, stains on the bed sheet, on the sofas, on the chairs, lots of body hairs on the floor behind the toilet and bidet, dirty dishes, abandoned cars in the courtyard, dirty and dusting staircase, lift not working when we arrived, etc.. etc.. The list is really long! Overall, not maintained at all, very bad condition and the place would require major renovation work. The photos on booking.com do not reflect the really at all. I would not recommend to stay there.

The property is beautiful, exciting and in a great location. In short, we loved it. A corner of a former grand palace, it was a privilege to stay in it. I could have so easily been perfect.

Beds had cheap, very uncomfortable mattresses and cheap pillows. The kitchen had almost no cooking equipment other than pans, not even a cooking knife. The hosts (ie Domus Sicilia, the management company) could only supply 1 key for four of us and completely failed to organise our transfer to the airport, they left us stranded on a street in Palermo with our luggage and did not return our phone calls to sort it out. They haven't replied to any communication from us since.
