It's hard to know where to begin.
This place is simply amazing. Due to some construction next door, our taxi couldn't get all the way to the door, but close enough.
The building is very old, stone construction, but so well kept and renovated with modern conveniences.
Alex, the owner, has lived in the building his entire life, and his family, for three or four generations. He answered my call, immediately, and came down to let us in. He then gave us an extensive tour of our rooms, and the garden.
Ahhhh the garden/jardim!
This place is worth the price, simply for the view from the garden! it overlooks the river, the bridge, and with a stunning view of Porto's sister city: Gaia! Plus, there's a tangerine tree!
You can walk down hill to a cafe, and to the riverfront, where there are tons of restaurants and bars. There is live music going all day down there, which you can hear from the garden. You can hang out and wave to people crossing the bridge!
The Cathedral is only steps away, where you can grab a taxi, Uber, Bolt, or hire a tour car.
Another block or two and there's a little store with Portuguese meat and cheese, as well as liquors and portwine, run by an old couple that are just too cute not to meet. She 'rings' up your order by calculating it on a sheet of paper, old school! A couple doors down from them is a convenience store where you can find beer, wine, port, liquor, snacks, and souvenirs.
Ask Alex where to find the best francescinias and pasteis de natas! And whatever else you want! He's a real local. He speaks impeccable English, as well as Portuguese, French, and Spanish.
The woodstove is run on pellets, and is easy to turn on and off, and very warm, if you need it during your stay. The kitchen has most everything you need: stovetop, oven, toaster, coffee maker (with great coffee), wine/bottle opener, electric tea kettle, fridge, all the kitchenware you'd expect.
The water pressure in the shower could be stronger, but the bathroom is lovely. Internet was a bit iffy the last day we were there, for some reason. But it worked most of the time. Wasn't a big deal for us, as we had a data plan.
The stairs down/up into the room are a bit steep, so something to keep in mind if you have mobility issues. We're in our 50s, and we managed okay.
