This neighbourhood is not safe. Choose different area of Lisbon. We had a traumatic experience. There was a street fight at 4 am in front of the apartment. One group of men lived next door, we heard them running the stairs, in an old building it sounded like the are in our stairs. One of the worst night in my life. One man was almost beaten to death… Also many sketchy people nearby (homeless, addicts). Also apartment is cold (April), there is a small heater that can’t do much. Place is a little bit neglected (stains on the wall, no doors). No self check in and paid late check in. Overall conditions bearable, but not value for money (regarding the safety).

Depends on what you want. The place is pretty much like the part of the city where it is, with old, authentic, maybe just a bit shabby feel. Personally I loved it, and it's really not expensive. What was not shabby at all was wifi, worked perfectly. Location itself is fantastic. Within walking distance from nearly everything, including two metro stations (very quick an easy way to get from/to the airport, also the Oriente bus station), the famous tram 28, not to mention places to eat or buy food. No one's there to disturb you. You can come and go whenever you like and feel perfectly at ease. And by the way, the infamous stairs are perfectly lit. I did feel perfectly safe on the street, day or night. Maybe just me. :) We were met on arrival by our nice and friendly host Rafaela. You may ask her for any information. One really good thing: if you are leaving late, you may store your luggage for several hours, and it's free.

I have no complaints about the stairs, I was there on my 60th birthday, and I managed. They are not worse than some of the most wondrous streets in the old town itself. I do have a minor compaint though. About the shower, or rather about the bathroom floor. It gets flooded every time you take a shower. Not the end of the world, not very pleasant either.

A great location, fantastic view, good apartment for the centre of Lisbon.

The bathroom door doesn't close well, we didn't mind but I think it would not be a good option for a couple that is not yet familiar with one another. Kitchen allows only the very basic cooking.
