Atlantic Nest Coimbra

Spacious apartment. Lovely host. Clean. Cooking basics like oil, salt, pepper provided as well as dish washing detergent which we had not experienced in Portugal before.

Pillows.

A large and beautiful apartment. Not really in the center. But many problems: it was very cold in the apartment, no aircondition, there were two small heaters, one with a broken button. There were no winter blankets at all, the beds were hard and not at all comfortable. The refrigerator had a terrible smell, almost impossible to use. There was no coffee and the owner promised to bring it but never returned.

The property was spacious and clean with all the amenities we required. The host Ricardo was excellent in welcoming us and being available for any help we may have required. Street parking was available almost outside the main door.

A car was required, that we had, to get around as the apartment is a good long walk to Centro and the University.

Ricardo is a very friendly and helpful host. He was already awaiting me at the appartment to hand over the keys. I spent three nights alone in the two-bedroom appartment, and I would recommend it for a family or two couples for a short stay. The common areas are well equipped and the kitchen is good for cooking proper meals. The bathroom was spotlessly clean and the shower is pretty luxurious. There are plenty of additional blankets in the big bedroom. I liked the nice details and wall decorations - most of them a panorama picture of Coimbra in the main living room (my favorite room).

The layout of the kitchen is rather basic (a simple dining table with not so cozy wooden benches), the cupboards are pretty hard to open and close and I was missing the wardrobe. There are not many lighting options (just one switch in the main hallway) and there is occasionally quite a noise transferred over the wall to the upper floor, it sounds like chairs moving and also the banging of doors from the hallway can be disturbing (however, there are two doors in between to the bedroom area). The location is pretty off-center, for walking almost too far as the main roads form quite an obstacle to cross, but for travellers by car this location provides a quide neighorhood (with good access to the campus Polo II).
