Alfama Apartments São Crispim

Location was great

Good price, central location, lots of lovely shops and restaurants around.

Property needs a bit of refurbishment, a new mattress would do magic, some fixings for the floor, washing machine and lights will also help.

Location. Facilities. Appliances. Owner communications. Easy checkin.

Maybe a mosquito repellent on the wall. I got a lot of bites.

We liked the location

Dirty. Cockroaches were in the wardrobe and kitchen area. We mentioned to owner but he never replied. Bathroom is full of sewer flies. Yellow and brown stains on blankets, mattress and pillows. Air conditioning unit is not ventilated outside so hot air stays in room. Does not circulate cool air. Garbage containers for the residents directly located outside front door does not create a nice smell and flies swarming all around the door. Extremely loud sounds whenever toilet flushes and sink and shower is turned on.

The location

Although the apartment’s location in Alfama is good, I wouldn’t stay here again and I don’t recommend it. • It was very hard to sleep at night: there was a lot of noise, someone sleeping on the stairs, and another guest yelling “get out” to make him leave. On top of that, the noise from the nighttime garbage collection constantly woke us up. • The mattress was very hard and uncomfortable, which made it difficult to rest properly. • The staff’s attention was lacking. They messaged me at 4 a.m. just because I hadn’t yet confirmed the exact checkout time, even though it was already clear I would be leaving before 11. • We also had to help an older guest who had been given the wrong code for the key box. And when they finally gave him the correct code, the box was empty. This clearly shows poor organization and lack of care. • The moka pot (Italian coffee maker) had mold in it. • The towels were stained. • There was a bad smell coming from one area of the kitchen, and we couldn’t figure out the source.

Check in was the worst experience of my 3 weeks in Portugal. I am 78 years old, stuck at the top of steep stairs without any lights at 8.30p trying to open lock box After 1 half hour and 4 unanswered phone calls. Host sends text and says "sorry I sent wrong code". Opened box and found NO key inside. Waited another long time for someone to arrive with a key. All night heard every step and voices on steep 3 story stairs. Coffee machine and propane stove top didn't work. No amenities in terrible shower Get text from Bernardo at 2.30 am asking me to send all my personal data via internet to check me in. I know the check out time, but he asked me what time I was going to leave. No one has ever asked me that anywhere in the 68 countries I have traveled to. Met young ladies downstairs who said, they aslo were sent wrong code for lockbox and waited an hour before they got the proper code. Hope no one ever stays in this terrible place. The address is 33, not 31, as listed on website and shown in photo. Michael Dobrich

Very good location in the middle of Alfama district. Ideal for discovering Lisbon. Easy entry with the lockbox, good communication.

It was great but very-very airtight and small.
