Alfama Terrace

Beautiful apartment in the middle of charming Alfama streets. Easily accessible from metro station and few minutes walking for some of the Lisbon's main attractions. Be aware of some steep streets and stairs you need to take. The view from the balcony is worth it. We travelled with bag packs which came handy.

Our host very kind and met us and waited for us at the apt after a long flight. She carried our bags up a very steep staircase with my husband also assisting. She prearranged a cab for the day we were leaving. A very detailed guide manual including an excellent restaurant right at the bottom of the street and many others was mentioned. Hosts are very responsive with calls/texts/questions. Terrace/patio with great views of the old town and water. Neighborhood is beyond charming and in my opionion the best place to stay and experience Lisbon. Nice breezes come in through your bedroom doors but bedroom also totally darkens for sleeping. Apt is very close to scenic overlook in Alfama as well as castle. Prebook your castle tickets. Restaurant at the bottom of the street Alfama Cellar was quite special and easily accommodated a gluten allergy. Apt is very hip and super cute, also spotlessly clean.

Better sleeping pillows. Thicker bed comforter and some blankets. Wi-Fi was slow. Staircase was quite steep and definitely not realistic for folks with mobility issues.

Loved the location in the middle of the old town. Lots of character and plenty of cute bars and restaurants on your doorstep. Apartment very cosy with everything you need. Loved the roof terrace and views. Hosts very attentive but not intrusive.

This isn’t a criticism but people with mobility problems would struggle. It is very hilly in Alfama and the stairs to the apartment would be a problem and be careful after a few drinks! 😂. We had a laugh about them and believe this is the norm in these apartments. We knew about them before the trip so it’s what we expected.

We liked the location and the terrace, the place was small but comfy, the airconditioning on cold night was very pleasant.

The sofa was sliding apart during the night when we opened it to sleep on it The apartment is nice for two (max 3) people, as it has two proper beds, but for a short stay it was fine and we could manage.

We really liked the location. The area is perfect. The metro station is 5 min away. The view from the terrace is beatiful. There are markets and restaurants arrond.

Had everything we needed for our short stay. Very clean. Miguel was extremely hospitable, responsive and helpful.

The stairs. The only reason I’m not giving the property a 10/10 is because the stairs leading up to the apartment are really badly & dangerously designed, especially for going up & down with luggage. On checkout I actually fell down these stairs (with my suitcase) and hurt my ankle. Not a great way to end the trip.

The apartment is located very centrally. Everything is walking distance away. There's even an excellent restaurant on the ground floor of the building. Apartment has everything that one needs. Kitchen is well equipped. There's even a dishwasher and a washing machine. The host greeted us with some complementary wine. Beware that the stairs to/from the apartment are very steep!

I gave poor marks for quietness. It's by no means the fault of the host! One needs to be aware of the location: you are in the old town, with people returning from whatever in the middle of the night. Some people are not quiet at all and this did wake us up. The garbage collectors came at 2am and made quite a lot of noise with the bins. In summer you would want to keep the windows open at night to get some air flowing, but due to the above said it might be not possible. With the windows closed it will be too hot in the apartment. Solution: use ear plugs ;) One other thing. The stairs to/from the apartment are very steep! One can, and unfortunately our kids did, hit his head against the sealing while going up to the apartment. Perhaps it would be good idea to put some foam around the sharp edge of the sealing.
