Guest H4U - Porto River View

We liked the very convenient location in the old town. It is a comfortable apartment, and it was nice to have a sitting area and kitchen. It's also so close to many good restaurants. There is a booklet of helpful information and recommendations. We really enjoyed Mathieu, who drove us from the airport to the apartment and Stephanny, who met us near the apartment and showed us in.

It was very noisy in the street at night with people and loud music, but that did end at midnight. The worst noise was on the busy street above - we could often hear motorcycles revving and backfiring well into the wee hours.

The property was a good size in a good location with all the facilities listed (apart from they only provided two poor quality toilet rolls and two coffees, which in my opinion isn’t enough for 2people 2nights)

The property requires you to pay a €29 cleaning fee upon arrival, which they claim they will refund if you clean the room yourself (based on their checklist). I have video evidence of the room upon arriving and departing.. this clearly shows I cleaned the room properly. Upon my arrival the cooker top and fridge were dirty (screenshots attached below). After departing they informed me they could not refund the fee as they apparently found dust and hair on the kitchen floor (screenshots attached below). I don’t honestly believe there was any dirt on the kitchen floor and the excuse of dust is so small and particular for keeping my money, especially considering the room was NOT immaculate upon my arrival. Another criteria on the cleaning checklist was ‘aspiration’, I therefore think.. if dust WAS on the floor there is no way to determine whether it had blown in the windows! Aditionally you should also anticipate.. Having to jump through hoops, responding to WhatsApp and booking .com app messages, as well as filling out online forms, just before your stay/during your trip ,bombarding with messages when it comes to simply what (extremely specific) time you will be arriving to your room ,having to read a manual on how to clean ,wasting hours trying to get the cleaning fee refunded (as promised). FINALLY.. if you do book this room, unless you want to mess around contacting customer service, just consider the room cost to be €29 extra, as they clearly don’t refund it.. so far I have shown them my evidence and tried very hard to get them to give ome a refund, which they haven’t given me! I’m currently in the process of getting help from booking, to hopefully retrieve it.

Excellent location. Very quaint with lots of old world charm. We definitely would stay again. The hosts were extremely helpful. Overall a very pleasant stay.

There is no air conditioning; however they did have a ceiling fan. Whilst it was mild outside an additional floor fan would be nice.

Spacious and decorated nicely. Felt very homely. Great location close to everything we needed. Stephanny met us at the property and was welcoming and friendly and gave us a detailed map and suggestions.

Well appointed kitchen but no microwave. Some things could be tidied up - broken drawer, mismatching and plastic cutlery in the drawers, toilet seat was loose. Property expected 3 people but I made the booking for 2. Unsure whether I paid for an extra person.

It would be difficult to overstate the pleasure of staying in this apartment! The photos don't do it justice—it's larger and "more European" than it seems. It was beautifully renovated, and the original floor, exceptional stone wall, and huge windows overlooking the alley (with its ever-present polite line to Taberna Dos Mercadores, the best seafood in Porto; yes it's worth finding your way to one of the 16 seats in this tiny cave—reserve 2 months in advance for one of the first eight, or show up at 12:00 sharp any day but Monday to minimize your wait for one of the second eight, otherwise you'll wait for the waves of people ahead of you to sit, eat, and leave...where were we? Oh, right) that is a few short steps to the impossibly charming riverside cafés you're coming here for. The kitchen has everything needed for a nice stay, and the water is hot and plentiful. Finally Stephanny, Isabelle, and Matt could not be more attentive! I usually received answers almost immediately. They were always pleasant and happy and filled with great advice, we did everything they suggested and each was a win! I very much plan to stay here again.

The pillows were a bit hard, we put the pillowcases on the softer throw pillows and used those. An inexpensive bidet would be nice. But these aren't deal breakers at all. In fact, they left us nice surprises that enchanted us!
