Kikinda peace oaza

Host was super nice and helpful, house is very clean and on good location, walk distance from city center.

I came here to Kikinda to have a look at the Long-eared Owls that the town is famous for (Nov to Feb)- best time to visit in any year is early January. By late January the owls are heading north to breed. This house was wonderful for my stay - mainly because the hosts made me feel part of their family, and as an American, I got to experience Serbian culture. (The mom is a professor of food technology and works with handicapped kids teaching them to cook; and the dad runs a software company - so this family is high end). I learned so much - and hopefully they learned something of America/Americans too. Anyway, the house I rented is spacious with ample heat - I was never cold. The kitchen was fine for my needs: gas and electric stove; large refrigerator; large dining area. I would say this residence could handle a family of five easily; or three adults (as there are effectively three bedrooms). The town square with the owls is about a ten-twelve minute walk easy to navigate. There is a small shop across the street to purchase water (you'll need it - see below), and about a ten minute drive are a few large supermarket type places. I'd stay here again just to experience Serbian culture from a warm, welcoming family - that experience is priceless...and hot water, internet, heat - all the basics you need for a good stay are 100% fine. As a bonus if you have a car there is a national park nearby, and the family knows local contacts who can take you on the back roads in the area to find cranes, diurnal raptors etc.

OK anywhere (any hotel or private residence) you stay in Kikinda you cannot drink the water: it smells (just run any tap)...and taking a shower is less than a fun experience (again water smells) - unfortunately the surrounding area is an oil/gas extraction zone + agriculture: the water is severely affected by these industries. Locals do not drink the water on an extended basis (they may use it to make coffee/tea). Unfortunately no matter where you stay in Kikinda - everyone has this problem. You'll be buying bottled water (available in plastic gallons to pints). Also, the shower in all residences is old style: a rubber line from the spout in the tub to use as a hand shower. So yes there is a bath tub and a "holder" for the shower head...but not the same as taking a shower with a fixed overhead. Again, this seems to be standard in Serbia - so when doing your research ask about this. Overall as a private residence with space - this is about the best you can get in Kikinda for multiple people at one place.

Great location, close to the center, and with a corner store just across the street. The property is an entire house, with all the facilities you may need for just a few days, or for a longer stay. Terrace on the second floor, connected to the master bedroom, and a terrace on the back of the house, connected to the kitchen. Great hosts, that greeted us and could answer everything we needed to know. I highly recommend the place, and will be back soon.
