Citrus Creek Chalets

I had so many laughs I nearly wet myself! But it made me feel good. We liked the nice large fridge in the kitchen. Also the aircon in the bedroom. However, no bottled water, coffee or tea or milk or Cremora, or rusks. No sugar nor salt or pepper or anything. We had to go to the overcrowded (ques at tills 40 trolleys long) Spar to get that. We also run some self catering units, in Stilbaai. Our guests will always find at least coffee, tea, sugar milk, spices, tomato sauce, vinegar, cooking oil, and some rusks as well as 5 liter of filtered water. And nice soft soap and shampoo in the bathroom. That is why we did not think to cart that stuff along. All self catering places have that, no? We charge R400pppn, and reduce for multiple nights, but had to pay R560ppn, times 4 = R2240. For that price we expected a little bit more than what we offer to our own guests, but we got much less.

Maybe, as fellows in the hospitality business, we can offer a few tips? The shower was hilarious. One second you freeze, the next minute you are scalded! I fell over laughing at my husband dancing in and out the stream, with the most profound language (blush blush). People should only use undiluted Sunlight liquid. When washing the dishes, the cheap dishwashing liquid would foam for a few seconds and disappear. Again, I was endlessly amused watching hubby trying to get the plates standing up in the drying rack. Yes, he washes dishes. I had such fun! He eventually built a tower with the washed pots and pan (excellent quality German cookware), to stop them large plates falling over and crushing the glasses next to it. Although DSTV was advertised, it was forbidden to use, according to a notice at the TV. Unfortunately, they did not screen the Grand Prix or the rugby on Youtube or Netflix. Pity. We each had a phone, tablet and laptop, but we received only two WiFi vouchers, Why skimp on data if you have unlimited uncapped fibre? Nobody uses data on all his or her devices simultaneously, so why skimp on WiFi? Makes no sense. Ah, my favourite gripe: The only mirror in the place is above the toilet, mounted too high for wifey to check her outfit below her middle. Husband is tall, but even he could only view his top half in the mirror. At least, standing on his toes he could shave. No mirror in bedroom. No bodywash or shampoo in bathroom. Hearing my hubby swear when he used the Handy Andy in a nice dispenser bottle, to wash his hands, was sooo funny! :) He (or me) could have been trying to wash the undercarriage, then you would have heard the screaming laughter in Cape Town. All in all, we learned that our own service is not too bad. At least, we place at least 4 rolls of double sheet toilet paper in the place if we have couples staying multiple nights. The two single sheet rolls we received, just made the two days and nights, used very sparingly.

Farm was so pretty, loved the river and greenery. It was awesome having animals around like the horse I found on my front doorstep one morning, as well as the geese and chickens. The pen with the sheep was also wonderful. Staff was friendly.

The chalet was run down and basic with meagre facilities. Bath time was agonising, the shower was sparse sprays of water. It was mouldy, smelly and freezing. Heater came with no gas in this freezing environment. I felt it was cheeky of them to want us to pay for it. Water was unheated. Took 20 mins to get help, when they said 5 min. And then another half hour to figure out the problem while testing through the window during supper, which ended up cold. Bad service. Towels were tiny and old. No soap, no salt, nor tea, nor coffee offered. Was not cheap either, so I feel this accomodation is way over-priced for what the chalet offered. Would not recommend this unless you don't mind roughing it.

I like how hospitable the host was, and the location is also great. The chalet is spacious and clean.

The wifi was quite poor, we had difficulties connecting and getting internet.

We could take our dogs along, which was comforting - great big property.

The cottage itself was so basic. The unit was not properly prepared for us on arrival - no towels in the unit - we had to ask. The lounge table had a container for rusks on opening it there was only crumbs, never been cleaned and or refilled. The kitchen drawers kept coming off its runners and falling out of the space. Had to take the tray out so the kids did not get injured opening it.
