The layout was not cramped and easily accommodated 6 of us. Bathrooms are massive and decor stunning. Gas heating ensured load shedding weas not an issue and lighting during load shedding more than efficient. Wi-Fi worked well and television had various options for entertainment with full online capability. Overall, the whole place and experience was excellent.

The main gate lock is located on the outside and gate could not be locked from inside the property, you had to walk around the property to unlock it from the outside. That said however, it was a very mild inconvenience.

Our main reason for going to Caledon was to do the Caledon Golf Course Parkrun and the Caledon Protea Cottage is very well situated for this (a 5-10 minute drive). We were a party of five adults, two couples, one single, so the configuration worked well for us., with the two bathrooms etc. The property is well equipped, an oven would have been nice, but not essential. we braaied one night and cooked inside the other. The beds are very comfortable and we were warm despite the weather and time of year. Off-street parking was good. All in all, Protea Cottage is very good value for money.

There doesn't seem to be a lot to do locally. None of the restaurants seem to market themselves. We found a good post-parkrun brunch at "Bouganvillea" having tried the Casino (don't bother to go there!), but went to Greyton for brunch on Sunday. There are several wineries within 15-20 kms, again not marketed. Caledon needs to sell itself better, rather than relying on the Casino and Spa.

Sweet cottage with really good facilities. We loved that the 6 sleeper option has a split for a separate 2 sleeper with own toilet, shower and mini tea station. Was perfect for our group to chill & braai after spending the day at the hot springs.

The locals are a bit noisy walking by early in the morning, however this wasn't a major issue. It would be amazing if the owners added a Kol-Kol jacuzzi. We would probably skip the hot springs and just stay at the cottage more often 😄
