Apartment near St. Elizabeth Church

Not far from train and bus station

I had a very hard time trying to find the place: no house number, no house name, no business name, NOTHING! Absolutely impossible to find the apartment, very unprofessional. Imaging the typical tourist situation. You just arrive, get off the bus and the first thing you want is to check-in in your booked place to start organising yourself. Just arrived, you have no internet on your telephone (UK networks currently not working in Ukraine) and no call credit and you are dragging around a heavy suitcase. On the top of that, the numbering of houses in Ukraine is according to a odd Russian system very hard to guess, it is not like in Europe where every door has its own number or a number with a letter for house identification purpose. And it gets even worse. Many street names in the whole of Ukraine have in recent years been changed to do away with the legacy names of the Soviet era. However, the old names signs still are on the street walls, so remember this and when you are in Ukraine, don’t go by the street signposts on the streets, they are obsolete, yet they remain in place… welcome to “European” Ukraine! So, that was my scenario and that’s why it took me 3 hours to find the place, going backs and forwards with a heavy suitcase trying to find the very inconspicuous apartment. I had to walk further with the heavy suitcase until I found a telephone shop to buy a SIM card and top up calling credit to be able to call the manager. I called them and when finally I located the gate at the street Stepan Bandera, then I was given a plethora of codes for the street gate and to enter the apartment. The codes to obtain the keys didn’t work and after 10 minutes of waiting at the apartment door, another person called me to tell me that the key was under the mat at the door. Absolutely unprofessional and de-organised service. If you don’t speak Russian or Ukrainian language, my recommendation is: Avoid this place like the plague.

Location: about 1.5 km from the train station and 2 km from the Old Quarter. Plenty of supermarkets and restaurants, good public transportation. I was switched to other location on Gorodotska 58. Room: very good size, private bathroom and kitchen (electric range), with complete kitchenware and even ingredients (salt, oil, sugar, tea, coffee, etc). Also TV and Wifi.

The shower drain was stopped up when I took a shower but the husband came in the evening and fixed the problem.
