Lagos Marina Side Apartment

Great location.

Upon arrival, the apartment was not cleaned. The bed looked made, but when we opened it, it was full of hairs and visibly showed the shape of someone who had previously slept in it. There were hairs in the bathroom and on the toilet. Dust and dirt were present throughout the apartment. My white socks turned black after walking shortly on the floor. One window did not close at all, and the balcony door also did not seal properly. We arrived during storms, and the apartment was cold as one heater does not work properly. Shortly after arrival, the electricity began shutting off repeatedly. The oven immediately triggered power cuts (had one cut when we arrived and sat in the dark for 25 min, and then had 6-8 cuts next day) making it impossible to cook. The kettle was damaged. The frying pans were in very poor condition with peeling coating, so cooking on the stove was not an option either. We had purchased groceries and were unable to prepare any food. We contacted the host multiple times. He initially promised a 100% refund and asked us to stay multiple times and said cleaners and an electrician would come. No one came. Nothing was fixed. After that, he stopped responding entirely. After leaving, we reviewed older guest feedback and found multiple reviews describing the same issues: electricity shutting off, broken kettle, windows not closing, heaters not working properly, cold apartment, promises of refunds and repairs that never happened.Some of these reviews were from 2–4 years ago, which indicates these problems are long-standing. We did not even demand the 100% refund he offered several times. We then only asked for 50%, but got nothing. We feel this approach relies on guests being patient, trusting, and reluctant to escalate matters during short stays and booking.com not being able to secure any refund from the host. If the host had cleaned the apartment, replied, or taken responsibility, we would have left a high rating.

I was unable to access the apartment when I arrived and had to book a hotel room. The owner didn’t provide the building door code and ignored my attempts to contact him. Two days before my arrival the owner made contact and said that two codes were needed to get into the apartment, which he would send the next day. He sent the key box code but not the building door code. I noticed and asked for the door code but got no response. I naively thought that this meant that the code would arrive closer to my arrival time, but this didn’t happen. The host wasn’t responding and so I ended up in a hotel room. Feeling scammed I rang booking.com with a view to cancelling the booking AND getting my money back. They said that they could only do this if the owner agreed. It seems that they managed to contact him and he refused. A message from the owner arrived in the middle of the night with a door code. The next day I went around to the apartment, tried the code, and it didn’t work. Again there was no response from the owner. To cut a long story short, the door code is changed regularly by the people who manage the building. By pure good luck, I happened to be at the door trying to get in when someone came around to change the door code, I showed her my code and she said that that was the new code that she was changing it to. So I was finally able to access the apartment. Hours later the owner responded to the code not working message, mentioned something about the codes changing and sent me the old code. This could all have been avoided if the owner had informed me that the door code was changing and sent both the old and new codes. For some reason he wouldn’t or couldn’t do that in my case. If you carefully read other reviews you will find other people getting locked out of the apartment because of the door code changing without prior notification from the owner.

Code für Eingangstür Haus fehlte Telefonisch war keiner zeitweise Anwesend Das Haus hat 2 Eingänge, für einen Fremden war nicht ersichtlich Welcher der Richtige ist.

geen aanspreekpunt, geen instructies, vuil, rommelige kasten, airco werkte niet (lees: in december ijs-, ijskoud), microgolfoven werkte niet, armoedige keukenuitrusting, regelmatige electriciteitsuitval (lees: nergens licht, geen kookvuur, ... ), veel inkijk op het terras, deurkruk slaapkamer afgebroken, zitbanken terras stuk ,...

Some of the items in the flat were broken, patio furniture, wine bottle opener , no instruction book for getting rid of rubbish etc.

The apartment was close to local amenities, and the use of the nearby hotel swimming pool was an added bonus.
