Historic Oporto Apartment at oporto UNESCO area, in front of Porto Wine caves

Location, location, location! Fernando spent a lot of time explaining the apartment, giving us information on what to do and where to eat. The apartment was large and comfortable. And we were happy to see a washing machine!

The only thing that was a bit of a problem was getting a taxi to and from the apartment.

We picked it for location and view – and we were not disappointed. We were looking for a “home” for 6 nights offering opportunities in the neighborhood and being a base for excursions. The hosts Olga & Fernando were waiting for us for an early check-in. It takes a short walk from the drop at the bridge – and yes, there are some steps to get to the top floor. Worth it for the view. They don’t advertise it for luxury – but we found everything we could need and more. Although just slightly set back from the lively Cais da Ribeira the nights were quiet. Douro wine region is not that exciting in winter – so Fernando modified a great day trip accordingly. The welcome Vinho Verde was highly appreciated.

As mentioned by other reviewers – be prepared to face some steps. Although the hosts love to help.

That location can’t be beaten. The view out of the front is like a postcard, and to top it off we had a 3 mast sailing ship moored right in front of our window. The view to the back is still impressive - it’s not often that you get both! The perfect place to start exploring Porto. We were due to fly in late in the evening but we’re additionally delayed. Our host Fernando let us in around midnight-sorry to have arrived at such a late time!

It can be a bit noisy in the evening/night. There were always a few lads hanging out around there chatting loudly, plus there’s a restaurant in the courtyard in front of the building. The bedrooms are to the back and I slept well anyway.
