Paradise Holiday Apartments

Great location, close to convenience stores, restaurants and waterfront. Easy walk into Cairns CBD along the foreshore. Good secure off-street parking. The accommodation was perfect, great facilities and plenty of room.

Leaving to stay somewhere else

I chose this as we specifically wanted two bathrooms. We paid $532 for 2 nights. The first problem was that the keypad for the gate didn't work. Peter the manager was giving us phone instructions but it wouldn't work. A resident of another appt opened it for us, mentioning lots of problems with it The manager then talked us through access to the apartment which involved climbing onto a wobbly wire chair to reach the key on top of a high ledge. Once inside, we couldn't find the second bathroom and had to call back. Peter rudely asked why we needed a second bathroom for only 2 of us. He then directed us outside the apartment along a dark carport to an outdoor bathroom in what he called the common area. The toilet was filthy, the shower had mould up the walls, the floor was disgusting, mouldy and strewn with litter. Many cockroaches were living in there. The bathroom light didn't work. We then looked around the rest of the apartment and found it unclean. There were hairs in the bathroom sink, on the towels and in drawers. The "free toiletries" advertised consisted of two already used bars of soap. All woodwork was grimy. The kitchen had a funky smell which we think was mainly the filthy cooker hood. There were hairs and dead insects in the drawers. The surfaces and all the pots and pans felt sticky. The fridge had brown marks inside. No basic tea or coffee provided. It was like a cheap backpacker place. We decided we weren't happy with it and could not stay there so contacted Booking.com to let them know and asked about a refund. They said they couldn't get hold of the owner. So we moved out to a hotel and told Booking.com. The next day, Booking.com said the manager denied the place was dirty and neither would issue a refund. Later, despite seeing my photos, they said I would have to contact the manager myself. Peter then verbally abused and swore at me before hanging up. He has since sent me disturbing and abusive texts

Plenty of room, clean, quiet area. Everything inside the apartment was in great condition. Peter the manager was excellent to communicate with.

Sometimes the gate wouldn't open after putting in the code. Outside lights in the car port not working. Or should install sensor lights as its a long walk from gate to door. Would of have been handy when we return late at night.

Peter was very friendly and easy to liaise with. Home is in a great location and very private. Would be great with young kids as fully fenced. Tiled throughout so easy to clean and fully air conditioned

The only downside we found was that although there is a full laundry, there is a charge of $5 per load. Home is perfect for a big group, but would prove quite expensive washing for a large group. Most other apartments we stayed in had complimentary washing facilities.

The apartment had a nice comfortable leather couch to seat up to 5 people, and a nice big table to seat up to 8 or 9 people comfortably. The rooms were spacious and the beds were also very comfortable. The kitchen had a nice selection of pots, pans, and dishes for cooking and serving meals. The shower had good water pressure.

The hot water heater was set very low and for the first 4 (out of 6) nights we were there, we did not have enough water for even 2 people to have a more than a 3-5 min hot shower without running out. And the hot water did not reheat very fast. So our group of 7 could not all have a hot shower within a 3 hour period. It took Peter a long time to fix this. We checked in on Sat night, informed Peter on Sun, and did not receive word that it was fixed until later on Wed afternoon. The Wifi never worked. Which meant there was cable TV, but there was no Internet for our phones (6 of us did not have local service as were from US), and no streaming services to watch movies or shows. We informed Peter on Sun. He tried to get it fixed by Telstra on Mon. But still not working on Tues. He found out the router needed to be reset (we did not have access to the router to reset it ourselves). Said he did that on Wed, but it never worked for us by the time we left on Fri AM. All 7 devices including the phone of my friend, who is Aussie and has a local phone connection, were unable to connect to Wifi with Internet service during our stay. The apartment lists 2 bathrooms, but doesn't mention that one of the bathrooms (toilet and shower) is located down the outside patio in the laundry room area. So you have to go outside of the apartment and walk past another apartment to get to it. The listing also states laundry available but doesn't mention that it is also located outside of the apartment and costs $5 per load for wash and another $5 to dry. We needed to dry our clothes because it was raining, and we could not use the drying line. We also asked for additional towels as we were there for 6 nights, but Peter did not have any available so he dropped off $10 so we could wash and dry our own towels. The apartment also did not have a dishwasher which is inconvenient if you have a lot of people in your group.

The Property was modern, clean and very comfortable, Great communication from Property manager, will Definitely stay again when in Cairns.
