The location, the size of the flat and the host

Sometimes some noices from the street and the neighborhood

This flat is in a perfect neighborhood! Alfama is so desirable and you’re so close to the city center that it’s easy to get around. Jorge was also very friendly and while I had a work meeting shortly after checking in, he was prepared to give us a run down of the city which I think would be helpful for guests new to town!

While in a lovely location, there were a few things undesirable about the place. The building is very old, yes, and the walls were literally crumbling and leaving dust on anything close to the walls. By the time we left the counters and the floor near the walls were all dusty. The water almost definitely has mold in it. It has a weird taste to it and it gave my throat a coated mold feeling - be sure to bring your own water for drinking! I went to the bathroom in the middle of the night one night and there were tiny little bugs all over the sink and bath tub. In the bathtub there is a foot shaped sticky thing on the side? Idk what it is but it looks moldy and gross. Also in the shower, there’s no way to prop the shower head up so you just have to hold it to rinse yourself off. The whole place smelled a little moldy as well - not sure if it was just the water so the drains were permeating a scent but when you walk into the place there’s an immediate smell. The kitchen sink doesn’t drain well. There was me and a friend but there was only sheets on the bed and no sheets to put over the futon couch. Those were the main things!

Location was excellent. Jorge was a great host, spent lots of time telling us where we might want to go in Lisbon and readily available for any questions or concerns. The place was a great fit for a couple. Well equipped kitchen for our needs.

The bed was very firm.

The apartment was very well located and very big. For three people we had a lot of space on two floors. The apartment was well-equipped and it’s really well communicated with airport and all main attraction. You can feel real Lisbon experience just out of the door with picturesque narrow streets, great fish restaurants and fado events.

There is no aircon, and only one window in whole 2-floor apartment (bedroom is without window, so you can’t keep the door closed because you will have no air, so privacy is limited). The apartment is in the lively part of the city, so when you want some air in the night you need to open the window and it’s loud 24/7 - restaurant, tourists, baggage wheels, garbage trucks, tourist electric carts, etc. The standard of the flat is quite outdated, so I think that is this price is too high for the quality you receive (basically you pay for the location)

Jorge was a great host (he waited for us and he took the time to explain us in detail the “must” from Lisboa and also offered us a bottle of wine). The location was very good since we were located in the old area of the city next to the metro and cool looking restaurants and bars. The kitchen was clean and well equipped.

The place was not clean enough. We could feel the floor dirty when we were walking barefoot. The bathroom was all in black tile. However neither the tile of the bathroom nor the bathtubs haven’t been cleaned with cleaning products. You could feel a greasy layer in the tub and it wasn’t pleasant to step on the little carpet as it was in a bad state as well.

A couple of notable amenities: free use of a small Wi-Fi hotspot allowed us to roam around with internet, a nice map and explanation of the area helped us plan our day, and a lovely bottle of wine was a fantastic touch.

Right where Alfama Disctrict meets Apolonia station (metro, train, car rental) with many restaurants & Fado houses mere steps away (recommended: O Corrido), we found this cozy apartman perfect for two and I guess it's okay for three as you don't plan staying here all day. Step out 1 meter to grab a bite & drink at the restaurant at the door or listen to the busy pedestrian streets & local music nearby from the tiny balcony before taking a walk to sights, food & drink places (we found one Hungarian called Este, what are the chances? :)). Panoramic view from the National Pantheon, Tram 28 5 minutes away, churches & Castelo de S. Jorge a little more. With a cold March the electric heater with a little sound was sometimes necessary but I imagine temperatures are fine most of the year. Apartman is clean, the little kitchen is best to brew a coffee and prepare sandwiches as the tiny induction stove (we didn't try it) limits cooking. We asked for extra towels & blankets and our friendly host quickly brought them, also providing many tips, a Lisbon map plus arranging an early morning taxi to the airport. Excellent stay near the city center, a fine location to grab a car to visit Sintra or Casais, best recommended for two if you look for comfort but hosts three just fine.

Wooden floor upstairs makes a crackling sound walking on it, tiny sounds from the neighbor during the day but not really bothersome overnight. Street is a little noisy during morning rush hour and the bathroom got humid fast during cold March weather. There is no heater inside though it's probably not necessary most of the year.

Excellent location. Jorge is a great host, very approachable and knowledgeable on Lisbon.

Gorgeous apartment and Jorge was a very accommodating host with spent a lot of time giving us travel tips and advice for our holiday in Lisbon. We would happily stay there again!
