Alfama Downtown Apartments

The location is very convenient and the size of the apartment was great for two people. Wifi is perfect for work.

I hate to be the person leaving this review but the value for money we paid was definitely off for this property. The apartment needs a deep clean (I'm very sensitive to dust and my allergies flared up hugely during the night), not to mention that we caught a couple of cockroaches roaming through the place. The bathroom needs repairs (the shower is clogged, the lid and chain in the toilet are broken, and there's mold on the ceiling and the shower rails). Also, although the location is convenient, you should know that there is a restaurant playing live fado every single night until late in the evening right in front of the apartment, plus the street is generally noisy at all times. Earplugs are definitely necessary for a full night's sleep here.

Very nice location to explore the city by foot and public transport. The apartment has adorable french-style balcony/window that overlooks the street and local restaurant underneath which has live music In the evenings. The nights are still peaceful and quiet, unlike in some other parts of the city. Despite apartment being small, I believe it's one of the best ones you can get in this area, as all the buildings are similarly built. We had everything we needed for the time staying (4 nights). The host is quick to respond to messages and has a very practical system for self check in and out.

The building seems old and has very steep and narrow stairs to the apartment, however, this is unavoidable in this area of the city. For the same reason the floors were pretty squeaky and we could often hear the upstairs neighbors walking, again understandably. There are some other minor things that could be bothersome for some people (ie. smaller shower cabin) but we still had a comfortable stay.

The location of the apartment is in the heart of alfama, which makes it very convinient for visiting alfama and the barrio alto and for stopping mid-day for resting in case that you've got a little one in the family. The kitchen was well equipped and there was a washing machine. All utilities worked (washing machine, microwave, oven).

The stairs to access the apartment are very steep. The sofa bed is difficult to set up and we ended up laying the mattress from the sofa bed on the floor just in front of the main bed. There is a slight water leak from the shower (next to the kitchen) to the kitchen. But above everything else the apartment stinks. There is something wrong with the toilet and the shower and at one point we came back to the apartment where the shower sink hole had spit some refuse into the shower plate.

very steep stairs but not so daunting after a couple of times, we worked out after 2 days temperamental electric jug only works when electric water heater not heating.
