"Beautiful location, great hosts, but hot in the summer and with spotty internet"

7.0

I got one of the attic rooms and its size exceeded my expectations. The views were fantastic. I loved sitting at the kitchen table and looking out the window to the village across the valley. The balcony is small and tad tight to maneuver around the plastic table; it overlooks the apple orchards, and has lovely views of the mountains. There's a small drying rack attached to the wall and a sun umbrella. The kitchen is decently stocked with utensils, though it would've been nice to have some spices (sugar, table salt, etc). There's not a lot of counter space, but the unused appliances can go on top of one of the cabinets. There's plenty of storage in the bedroom, which itself is large. There are light-blocking curtains to cover the windows. The hosts were great and helpful. Their daughter (and Google Translate) helped as I didn't speak the German so thoroughly spoken in the area. BTW, the TV also has only German-language programming. Two adorable and friendly cats roam the property -- though one, Mimi, tends to let its hunger know relatively early in the morning :) The property is quiet, though realize you're on a farm in middle of a large farming region. There will be the occasional tractors and farming implements roaming and working early in the morning or late at night. The area is full of hikes and places to see. The village itself has 3 castles, 4 if you count the one up the hill on hike route 12; there's about a million more in under an hour drive.

The fridge is rather small, even though there's room for a taller one. It does not fit the taller 1.5L/2L bottles of water or soda. The windows could use bug nets because there's no AC and so you have to keep them open and hope for a breeze, but that means bugs, flies, and mosquitos make their way in freely; worth spending a few euros on a mosquito device. The owner was kind enough to loan me a fan, but expect the days and nights to be sweaty in the summer months. The listing mentions a queen bed, but it's really two regular beds pushed together and covered with a single fitted bed sheet. They tend to come apart during the night if you're restless or sleep in the middle. They're also pretty hard. In contrast, the pillows do not offer great support and are lumpy. There's WiFi on property, but the internet connection itself was not working most of the time, and when it was it was downright abysmal; couldn't even make voice calls, let alone video. It's like having a car with no wheels: it's technically still a car, but it won't get you anywhere fun or useful. If you're counting on connectivity, better spend some 30 euro on a TIM Tourist SIM for your internet needs.
