NLTsuruma may not be a place a lot of people know, but it's compact size and location makes up for the distance to Tokyo. We took this spot as a home base for the month, as it is in an area where traveling is easy thanks to the Odakyu-line. The town location might not be for everyone. Quite a travel away from Yokohama and greater Tokyo, Tsuruma sits snug between the bustling nightlife town of Yamato (which even when you missed your last train is about a 30 minute walk!) and the city that is great for a day of shopping: Sagami-Ono. The fact that the train station and many amenities of Tsuruma are within walking distance are a big plus, and the apartment gives one a glimpse of how people live near cities in the Kanto area.
Though this place has a lot to love, I can only now recommend this place that travel solo as the bed and overall apartment size maybe too small for two, especially for western visitors. Though the owner of the apartment has been transparent with making swift changes, this could be an issue for those looking to stay if this has not been resolved. The location does not have wi-fi nor towels which means you need to be prepared. And despite the photo's the room can be very dark.

NZThe best part was the local people in the area. The station is also nearby, which was good. If you interact with some of the locals you'll have a great time staying here. The owner responded quickly and was very helpful.
The room is very tiny and old. When you first enter, there is a strange smell that takes awhile to get used to. The balcony is only used for drying laundry, and is very small. There is no WiFi either. We also had a cockroach in our room. I cannot recommend staying here. The photos are misleading too. The room is very dark.
