Departamentos Blue Bacalar

The spectacular view of the lake from the apartment, the friendly and helpful staff and the quietness of the place. I think we got unlucky with the weather but we had a sunny day on our first day and had so much fun staying at the garden/ lake side! Our kids spent hours and hours swimming right in front of the house and as parents it felt safe because you have a good view from the house.

We had heavy rains on our last day and water started to leak from the ceiling. Some things also didnt work well such as clogged shower and broken slide door lock. The house caretaker fixed everything quickly though!

The garden with the jetty and lake views is what makes this place special. Our kids age 7 & 10 loved jumping off into the water, the hammocks etc. The big sky views are spectacular - sunrise,, night and day. The accommodation is spacious with air con and fans. It has basic provisions like washing up liquid, toilet roll, coffee etc which is helpful. Staff are friendly.

The road before you reach the property is not surfaced and there are a lot of pot holes! It's a good 15-20 minute walk into the centre of Bacalar and the walk back at night is pretty dark (although we were told very safe and we could have taken a taxi). Expect basic furniture/furnishings.

Great people to deal with! The apartment was perfect. Big kitchen and bathroom. Sleeping quarters huge. There is a safe (loved that) which I found to be rare in Bacalar. The owner and his son helped me get the charcoal grill started. The lake is just 100 feet from the door. No regrets.

There is nothing to dislike.

Kept ducks in an inhumane pen away from our quarters. Discussed with younger Louis who promised to address our concern.😇
