Little Wren Cartmel Couples Retreat

Our stay was wonderful! The cosy cottage provided everything we needed for an amazing countryside getaway near the beautiful Lake District. We can't wait to return!

Quirkiness and Layout

Nothing to dislike

The cottage is on a lovely site with log cabins and a manor house, and is within a good walking distance to Cartmel Square, via the country lanes or across the fields (both around 15 mins). There is a lovely little doggy exercise field on site too which was very pleasant in the sun. The cottage has everything you could possibly need, including umbrellas and hi viz jackets - the bed is very comfortable - everywhere was clean, tidy, and very fragrant, and nice big towels and dressing gowns were provided. The hosts were very responsive and checked that we had everything we needed and also allowed us a slightly later checkout. Our dog was very comfortable there, and there is a little garden to the rear where we took our own little 'pen' fence so he could go out without escaping as we had read on previous reviews that it was an open area across a few cottages. All in all, it was a very pleasant stay, and we would definitely stay there again if we returned to Cartmel. Thank you!

Little Wren was an absolute gem of a find, the pictures on Booking.com don't really do it justice. It far exceeded our expectations! It is so cosy and homely, full of character, and every little thing has been thought of including dressing gowns, lovely warm throws and all the kitchen appliances you could need. There is a cupboard with an honesty bar, which to be honest was a nice surprise as I hadn't known prior to our visit. You can have a few drinks and leave money in the box, or buy a nice little bottle of something to replace and pass on for the next guests to enjoy. When we first walked in, it took my breath away. As we were staying over New Years Eve, I knew this would be the perfect place where we could relax, be cosy and enjoy a welcome break. The surroundings are stunning, lots of lovely walks and it's very peaceful. Walking into the village takes around 15 minutes, and you can go by road (which isn't recommended at night as there is no pavement) you can also follow the footpath opposite, through the fields, which is a public walkway and is safer. We did this after a few wines on New Years Eve with a torch and survived!! There is a door from the lounge leading outside where you can let your dog out, but it isn't enclosed and so will need to be on a lead if they don't have the best recall like mine! A little further behind the cottage is a lovely little Orchard where you can let your dog off for a morning run and looks out over the hills. We were lucky with bright sunny days - so this was gorgeous in the mornings. The village of Cartmel is absolutely beautiful. Lovely little independent shops, cafes and the most welcoming traditional pubs and restaurants. It was bustling, in a nice way, not crowded, but a lovely atmosphere, and was the perfect place for us to spend from 29th Dec and over New Years Eve (although we headed back to the cottage at 6pm as we wanted to be cosy there!) Having the rear of the property enclosed for letting dogs out safely. We would have to pop our shoes and coat on in the evening if she wanted to go outside. Only a small thing though, everything else was perfect.
