The apartment is above a small supermarket (entrance to the right through the metal gate). The apartment is spacious and well equipped. It was really great to have a washing machine and a coffee machine. The internet TV in the kitchen is also great. If you can't speak a word of Italian (us) you can watch you tube or netflix or listen to internet radio (we managed to get BBC2 radio 2 via the built in web browser). The beds were really comfy. The supermarket below is not big but it has the essentials. We stayed for 1 week so we had to buy washing up liquid, toiletries, toilet paper etc as we used what was there in a few days. They also sell the coffee pods for the coffee machine. We would have expected to have at least 1 or 2 dish washer tablets provided by the owners but this wasn't the case. From the apartment you can walk to Porta Maggiore in under 25 minutes. Take the side roads as the main road is busy. There's also a bus stop outside so you can get to Porta Maggiore a bit quicker if need be. There's a cash point just a few minutes southeast of the apartment if you need cash. There's a few minor things that could be done to improve the experience. There was no corkscrew in the kitchen and no hand towels or tea towels. There was also no instructions for the coffee machine so spent the first 5 minutes trying to figure out how to put larger cups in and also how to empty it. The apartment is at the top of staircase which you have to pass to get to the bathroom. A night light would help here. If you want to go to the toilet in the night and not put bright lights on then the staircase is a bit of a worry. Make a point of arranging a date and time to provide ID and pay the city tax with the property owners. I had a text message asking me to get back to the apartment (the owners offices are in the same building) within 90 minutes to provide ID and pay the taxes. I explained this was not possible and I paid the the following day.

Unfortunately the supermarket is noisy in the mornings around 7am. Low rumbling noises can be heard. Probably stock deliveries. This is fine if you're an early riser but if you want to relax and get up a little later, not so much. The road outside is quite noisy and the bedroom windows just aren't good enough to block out the noise. If you're a light sleeper then take earplugs.
