Grand top floor apartment in the Royal Bank House

Lovely apartment. Styled nicely with elegant decor throughout. Large, high ceilings and a fab location for Dalduff barn.

Only 1 bathroom which isn't a major issue but can cause a back up if all trying to get ready etc

The apartment is very spacious, comfortable and well decorated. The location is very convenient - we went to see Culzean Castle which is outstanding and 10 minutes drive away

Maybole as a town has seen better days/ It has retained basic shops, pubs and restaurants etc

Where it was situated

The front door and side doors were very dirty did not look inviting, when we got into the property the stairs were dirty and uninviting. When we entered the property it was a bit better until I looked at one of the plugs it was hanging of the wall. Otherwise we enjoyed our stay.

The property is beautiful and spacious with lots of quirky details. We loved browsing the record collection and made good use of all the coffee gadgets. The rooms were immaculate and the beds were very comfy. The stay was very peaceful and relaxing. Thanks for having us.

Quirky and faded elegant style and decor

We loved the location and the roominess of the apartment. As well as the authentic look. Very well equipped, warm and comfortable. John was very helpful and accommodating via Booking.com, messenger and mobile.

The safe key lock box is located at the rear in a brick-built shed which is fine during the day but at night in the dark it is literally black and you have to use a torch or the light on your mobile phone. We were already aware of this as advised by John. The entrance to the apartment (stairwell) is quite run down and smells of damp. Not a great start to your stay making you think the apartment is just as bad - which it isn’t thankfully! We had a problem with the door to the apartment when we were leaving to go to a wedding the next day. We were literally locked in and initially couldn’t make contact with John. While trying to unlock the door we realised there was no other fire escape which would have been awful if there was a fire. John returned our calls and messages after we finally got out of the apartment (after 20 minutes of struggling) and was very apologetic. I just hope the dodgy lock has been resolved. Luckily we had no other problem with that door during our stay.

The place was clean enough. It was also close to a small supermarket.

The place doesn't have a TV which is very strange. It didn't advertise one. It also doesn't have wifi.

Owners were extremely helpful when I contacted them regarding the locks. The apartment had a lovely, quite unusual vibe, with the vintage decor. There were also cute ornaments and seashells in each of the rooms. Really loved the addition of the djembe drum. We never even used our Chromebook for streaming as there were so many books and boards games to pass time. I also noticed they had a good selection of vinyl records with instructions to operate it in the guest book. The kitchen was the best equipped I've come across with a range of teas, sugar, cooking sauces and legumes. This is very handy as there is little on offer in terms of dining/takeaway in the area. Would recommend to hikers and tourists who wish to see Calzean and Robbie Burns attractions - apartment is located next to the train station and bus links that take you directly there.

Maybole is of course a really small area. I'd recommend eating in where possible. We had a chippy one night and the fish was off so had to bin it. A Chinese the second night and we both threw up. Last night we went down to a local Bistro/Pub at about 6 pm and advised they didn't serve food, even though they advertised evening meals. They may be other little eateries in the area that are better, so I wouldn't let that put you off.

quite big, very comfortable and ideal for shops and the like. short walk to the train for trips to Ayr and a bus ride to the beach, and the kitchen is definitely a big bonus.

there was no TV, which sucks but it goes with the vibe of this old apartment, wasn’t a downer. other than that there isn’t really much to say in a negative light, I mean the dishes needed a re wash but that’s a given when staying anywhere.
