Cozy Garden Retrait

The cozy garden retreat worked out for us on short notice when arriving in Varenna on a Saturday. Due to some other reservation issues we had no room but found the garden retreat online. Normally I would thoroughly read all details but in this case didn’t and there were a couple issues. The host was great in assisting us with everything tho and made up for the couple of issues.

There is no parking available so even unloading our luggage was a challenge. The bed is a bunk bed up some steep steps (ladder) which is not convenient for older people like ourselves.

Elisa was very helpful, I was charged too much and she put it right.

Terrible damp mouldy smell, very depressing place, had to get out of the bed (perpendicular ladder) to turn off light. So no sockets or light beside bed, you need a torch. Not sure why the bed is a student type with desk and chair underneath, as there is ample room for a proper bed. Bed was comfortable but felt damp. Expensive, stayed in a much better place in Varenna centre for less.

Arrived by taxi due to thunderstorm at that time. Entry ok Apartment musty smell until all windows and doors open Nice surprise of milk juice fruit provided in fridge and cruskets left.

Smells musty and looks dirty outside entry. Needs a good clean with mould remover. If Asthmatic - not an ideal accomodation. Lock to gate broken had to reach through from outside to open blindly. Power went off during thunderstorm for 12 hours. No candle- a tea-light candle already used and left unplaced. Spend hours trying to find power board. eventually the host supplied information Electricity tripped off x3 times with switch inside unit and down in alley way before staying on. Door key very difficult

Elisa is extremely kind to relocate us to another of her room right at the centre of Varenna as there was vacancy and the view of lake como from the balcony and rooftop was stunning! It was a perfect stay with free toiletries, hairdryer etc. and great breakfast! (honestly rare to see free breakfast provided so definitely a plus point)

Location was close to Varenna, just a 30 minute walk to the ferries. The staff was very nice. She arranged a taxi for us which was great

The apartment was cold and damp. This is hard to rectify given the location. Also, the bed is difficult to get in and out of.

Location was great, a short walk to the town and near the famous villas. Very quiet area, right on the lake. Stunning view of the lake from the window in the living room. A cute and cozy little house, perfect for 2 people.
