The place isn’t the cleanest or well maintained. There are spider webs everywhere, walls are stained and soiled, the A/C is noisy. The balcony and the garden area are not at all clean.

The location was AMAZING!! It is the best part of this rental. Not only do you have a small balcony overlooking the lake and the mountains, but there are also two terraces behind the apartment to enjoy. The birds greet you in the morning and the trees next to the apartment are lovely. There is a well rated restaurant just next door with rooftop dining. We couldn't get a reservation on short notice, but we will know next time to reserve before we come. The apartment is conveniently located between the waterfront and upper part of Varenna where you can find morning coffee, the tourist information office, restaurants and shopping. The washer was a nice addition as well as the drying rack.

The shower is tiny. We are not large people, but had a hard time raising our arms to wash our hair. Really really small shower. Also, there were no towel racks and no toilet paper holder. There were no extra towels, no extra blankets or sheets. Although I love the duvets, my husband likes to have a simple sheet or light blanket for sleeping. The most challenging part of our stay was finding the apartment. We had never been to Varenna and knew nothing about the area including the lakefront. The hosts work very hard to provide detailed instructions, but we had trouble with them. The first turn out of the train station created our confusion. There was a road coming down from the train station and a walkway. We took the road (not seeing the walkway) and from that vantage point, we couldn't see the bridge that was referenced in the directions so we thought there was a bridge to the left.and we walked for almost a mile on switchbacks before contacting the host to find out that we had gone the wrong way. I have the following suggestions for adjusting the directions (especially for first timers). First: From the train station, walk down the hill. There is a drive with a stop sign (and also a walkway to the right of the drive.) At the stop sign, continue downhill to the right toward the lake and you will see a bridge. Turn left and cross the bridge. (At this point the directions are good until the top of the hill, but I suggest these changes: When you get near the top of the hill look for the yellow building (great picture of the yellow building). Just before the yellow building there is a cobblestone walkway that angles down to the right. Take that walkway and you will come to the gate of Robyhouse on your right. The name Robyhouse is on the gate.

The apartment was clean and spacious with exceptional lakeside views and great communication from the owner .

The location bests all. The views and sunsets from the balcony are amazing! We’ve stayed here several times before.

It really is a rental with little to no extras. No extra garbage bags, no paper towels, no pepper, they did have salt and olive oil, which was nice.
