Apartment on Whaleisland

Thorleif was very nice and helpful with our planning. :) We were mainly hiking and the location was a great starting point for many different areas. Very comfy - feels like home after a few days!

Lots of space and a very welcomingy, friendly and helpful host. Kitchen got everything you might need, plus some basics, public transport is just around the corner, gorgeous landscape is all around. :)

Rooms are part of the family's home and the hallway is shared. Ways might cross.

Location to explore Kyavola. Spacious rooms. Lovely view across fjord towards Tromso and mountains. Good hike from door. Great supermarket down the hill.

Apartment was not self-contained. Shared entrance with host, as well as private rooms in same area. One room being reached via guest lounge and kitchen. We were unaware of this when booking. Noticed that host has since we booked, uploaded a plan detailing the shared and private areas. Also be aware that the outside area for guests is the small grass area in front of the ground floor entrance, next to parking area. Host did supply table and chairs for us here. The outside decking shown in photo is for the host only.

Beautiful views

The male host was rude, he tried to deny the flaws of the apartment and the apartment's description. The apartment was different than in the description: there was no sofa bed (instead an air bed that deflated during the night), the entrance and the main corridor was shared with the host family and their dog! The apartment was not very clean. There were no proper curtains in the living room - I tried to sleep on the narrow and uncomfortable sofa and was woken up at 5am due to sunlight (Easter time). We left after the first night, cancelled the rest of our reservation, and continued our holiday elsewhere.

Kitchen equipment could be improved / extended.

Location is perfect, near the airport, a big supermarket and a great place to try to see the northern lights or hiking. Hosts are the best, so kind and really helpful, they gave us a lot of information about the area, offered us to set up a fire in a nearby cabin while waiting for the Aurora, and lent us snowshoes, crampons and hiking poles, so we didn't have to carry it on the plane. The house is very comfortable and the view is great.

The slope to the house is very slippery when it is icy, but the hosts provided us with all the help and the stuff we needed.

Excellent location for the Northern Lights, via a track next to the house. Thorleif (the host) kindly gave us both access to snow shoes, ski poles and head lamps to access the viewing point, where there is a hut with a fire pit inside. Thorleif took some wood for us and set us up with a fire. This allowed us to keep warm in between viewing the lights, which extended our time watching them. We were the only users of the hut that night, so it was much better than a guided and time limited tour. The house is clean, well appointed and close to a supermarket and the bus station.

The location is excellent. It’s a good location either for renting a car or taking public transportation. The location is very close to a grocery store that has very good food supplies. The host was very helpful with many questions I had.

The location was perfect. 15min from airport and plenty of walks nearby. The view was lovely overlooking the bay and a well stocked super market was 2min walk away. The accommodation itself was basic but clean and warm. One of the nights was very clear and we saw the northern lights from the window. The owner was friendly and provided information on the local area and snow boot ski’s. There is underfloor heating except in the kitchen and bedroom.

The owners live above the rented out space and all movement can be heard. The last night in particular was unbearable with very loud noise being heard up to 3am. Not ideal when you have a flight the next day. The mattress and pillows were very soft and no extra clean pillows provided. The shower tray water was very slow to drain so it kept filling up. The living room does not have a tv. We used our phones to watch Netflix. The kitchen is very basic equipped (no toaster or microwave) and also didnt have hot water supply in the sink.

A wonderful site with excellent views and too many opportunities to chase the northern lights
