Baardbos Private Game Reserve

The kids just loved the animals. Hot tub, bike friendly paths and hiking routes were all great! Being able to explore the property gives you that 'in the wild' feel, you never know what animals you going to come across on your path.

In der Natur gelegen, viel Abstand zu den anderen Häuschen, Tiere direkt vor der Tür. Wir durften frei rumlaufen und konnten viele Tiere beobachten.

Waren nur eine Nacht da und dafür war es sehr gemütlich, jedoch gab es in den Häuschen direkt kein wlan, jedoch in einem Aufenthaltsraum. Der Weg vor dem Game Reserve war eine Schotterstraße. Vorsicht, wenn ihr einen Mietwagen habt

There was nothing we did not like.

Our stay at Baardbos was exceptional. The hosts Reve and Christiaan are wonderful, and very accommodating. My group happened to book out the entire place - all 7 chalets. The chalets are the perfect balance between comfort and simplicity. We stayed in the heart of winter and found them to be very warm and cosy too. The comfort chalets have an enclosed patio deck, whereas the standard chalets have this area open. All chalets are fully kitted out for self-catering and also all have a built-in braai. The property also has a BIG lappa which is kitted out with nearly everything you could need. A pool, a MASSIVE braai (you could do a spit in it), FULLY stock honesty bar, kitchen with stove, oven, fridge, deep freeze, and all the cutlery, crockery, cookware, serving dishes etc. you could need, R2 coin operated pool table, foozeball table, TV and sound bar, 12 seater dining room table, and comfy couches. The building has big sliding doors that open the whole place up, which must be amazing in the summertime. The farm boasts an array of interesting game and plentiful birdlife - I could have spent hours walking about searching for species. The farm although not huge, is big enough to lose yourself in nature for a while. You are welcome to walk around. There are also 4x4 tracks which you are welcome to drive around on - be warned, you very seriously need a 4x4. Your wannabe off-road all-wheel or 2-wheel drive high-clearance bakkie WILL NOT MAKE IT - the hills are fynbos covered sand dunes, and the sand is very, very soft. We had a Toyota Fortuner 4x4 which we took around, it managed well, and we had a lot of fun taking drinks up to the top of the hill to watch the sun go down. Baardbos goes down as one of my favourite holidays ever, and me and my partner at least will be returning.

We stayed for 2 nights...I needed a 3rd! A caution to anyone of a sensitive disposition - it is a game farm that presumably makes most of its income through its game. This also means it is a hunting farm, so be prepared for the decor in the lappa - lots of animal heads and skins. A lot of the game are also unusual breeds - half-white springbok, fully white or black springbok, golden wildebeest, etc. Some people may find this beyond their reasonable comfort. If you can get past that though, this place really is divine. For others, I should imagine this is just an added draw card!

The reserve is well-kept with beautiful scenery. The tranquility is divine. It was absolutely lovely to watch the animals graze right in front of our chalet. It was affordable and value for money. Access to the lapa is a bonus.

The mattress was TERRIBLE! We are not old or spoiled, but found the mattress very hard and uncomfortable. We actually dreaded going to bed! We would also have liked a few more tools for braaing, e.g. a braai tong to manipulate the wood. The shower was difficult to manage with water constantly changing temperature. We would also have liked to know that the condition of the road leading to the reserve is better suited to off-road vehicles. If we did, we might not have chosen to stay there. Extending wi-fi up to the chalets should also be considered.
