a greeting note left by the owner clearly stated (in english) we could pay during checkout the next morning. Nice or so we thought until the mother of property owner (living next apartment over) begun pestering us about immediate payment at an hour convenient for her (in Japanese). I showed her the note written by the owner to no avail. She made zero effort to be accommodative. The next morning during checkout time she barged in to the property at exactly 10am, loudly pronouncing it was time for us to leave. We were dressed, packing and ready to leave in 1 minute, but could have been indisposed. This has never happened. Anywhere. This experience is the polar opposite of the warm and extremely considerate service usual in Japan. Perhaps as important were the windows that whistled like an old kettle during the night. I have videos documenting the noise, but can only attach photos here unfortunately.

Being able to wake up and see Sakurajima from your bed. The host was extremely friendly, making it feel more like your staying at relatives.

Phänomenale Aussicht. Lage top, alle Schiffe fahren in der Nähe los (Sakurajima, Yakushima), Ausgehmeile/Fussgängerzone in 5 Min. Gehdistanz. Michiko, die nette flexible Vermieterin, hat uns bei Regen zum Bahnhof gefahren. Apartment mit sehr guter vollständiger Infrastruktur.

Nichts, höchstens das Schlafen auf Futons (man gewöhnt sich dran).

The apartment is very close to the Yakushima ferry terminal, has a washing machine which was very convenient and a well working internet. I don't want to leave a bad review, but I booked this apartment based on positive comments and was somewhat taken aback. I don't know what criteria was used by guests who gave Gracias 9/10 rating? The apartment could have been very cozy with some thoughtfulness (practical appliances, a lamp/table near the bed, accessible sockets etc and yet)

Communication left a lot to be desired. If you advertise an accommodation on Booking, messages should generally be replied to on the platform or at the very least via contact provided. It was all very slow from the start, and at some point stopped. I asked about the stove not working, no response at all. I suspect the real owner is the woman who collects the money and lives in the building, and the person who manages the booking doesn't get involved in day to day. On the last day the cleaner tried to enter the apartment while I was still there. It was all a bit strange. There is continuous traffic noise from the street is something to be aware of for those who are sensitive to this.

Appartamento carino, in una casetta stile giapponese, con balcone e vista vulcano. Padrona di casa super gentile e allegra. Posizione comoda per tutto.

The view is incredible, and it's very practical if you want to go to Sakurajima early in the morning. ​オーナーさん is also very nice and even took the time to chit chat with me, even with my very poor japanese !

Don't let your clothes drying outside while there is an incoming ash cloud ! Especially the white shirts !
