JOIVY Converted Flat in Historic Building in New Town

Enjoyed the location. There is two pubs one on each corner of the long block of flats. Also a lovely wine bar. Great restaurants within walking distance. It was several blocks, all up hill, from the tourist area and train station.

The major problem we had was finding the place. The address they have on the website is only a mailing address, not the physical address. I was not able to access any information they had provided earlier in the day while we were flying. I had no cell service and dead battery. We knew the street but that was all. The street consists of two long blocks of hundreds of identical buildings that are flats. Only thing that identifies them is the number on the door. Which we did not have or access to get it. We were totally at a loss. Luckily we were saved by a kind stranger that owns a pub at the end of the street. She took us in and charged my phone enough to get the phone number to Joivy’s office. She let us use her phone to call and get the flat number and code to get in. Without her I don’t know what we could have done.

Couple of suggestions.... Wifi isnt the best - not sure if its due to location or quality of broadband. Shower wasnt the best - wasnt much pressure when using hot water.

The bathroom is small. And it takes me a lots effort to open the sofa bed by myself. I don’t think the property is worth for its price.

Great location There is everything you need in the kitchen

The odor. Feels like someone is constantly smoking cigarettes in your bedroom, even throughout the night. Didn't feel comfortable with single duvet on each double bed. I would suggest two single duvets per bed as it is in most places.

EDIT: reduced my rating because I’ve just realised another reviewer raised the issue with the linens back in March and the property assured them they’ll make these charges clearer. It’s the end of June and they still haven’t so really important people know this is a clearly intentional scheme. Booking asked us to confirm the check in time which we did, it’s literally at the last minute the property said they won’t be able to deliver to that check in time. We paid extra for 3 people to rent the property and not just 2. Similar to the budget flying model we were told literally at the last minute there’s an additional £20 just to use the bed linen for the extra bed. Charged £80 for cleaning which was only done once, before our move in, during our 3 day stay. Became unresponsive on the morning of check out when I requested to extend check out time (they tell you only to contact them on that morning). Cleaning was finished at 3 pm on our check in day but the cleaner came in promptly in the morning on our check out day. Nowhere to store luggage. Property itself was nice but just not worth it. Better off staying at a hotel going forward.

Location is perfect, close to the center, groceries store nearby and a bar at the corner.

Charged us 20 pounds for a sheet for the couch, although we have booked and paid for 3 people, so this involved the couch already. There was no blanket for the couch. We bought extra toilette paper ourselves. The house was chilly, around 20 degrees C. The thermostat was preset so when we increased the temperature it was warmer for a couple of hours but then got cold again. Poor isolation so we could feel the wind near the windows.
