Wonderful apartment, clean & spacious with lots of extras. Doug & Sandra are the perfect hosts. It's in a quiet area, only a two minute walk from the beach

Not a thing

Hostess was very helpful. We used the information booklet to select a place for dinner. Breakfast food was well organised and nicely presented. Lovely outdoor area.

The Sunrise apartment was really spacious and very clean. It had pretty much everything you could need and more, lots of extra touches that were thoughtful ... like milk and a cool drink in the fridge, lots of standard breakfast choices with fresh bread and cereals, yoghurt and fruit cups, plus pots of honey, jam etc. in the fridge. Included was a full kitchen, comfy lounge, king size bed and a large bathroom/laundry. Doug and Sandra provide lovely linen, super soft towels and nice sheets too. That's always appreciated when travelling :) There is a spacious back yard with a covered deck over the entrance and sliding door of the apartment, this was a nice afternoon spot to sit and watch the sunset. The outdoor seats were comfy and easy to move, to take in the left side of the yard (which has a better view - see below). Also appreciated the outdoor clothes line to dry our beach gear. The location was good and quiet, only 10 mins from Whakatane town and 200m down the road to Coastlands Beach. Ohope Beach is about 20 mins drive (10 mins south of Whakatane) and not that much better than the one down the road, although the views getting to Ohope were worth the drive.

Pillows ... there was a choice but like many places, they're either too large & fat or too flat, soft and lumpy ... not really anything in between. It is a personal thing for sure, but easy enough to remedy. Perhaps invest in some in-between pillows and maybe latex ones ... as they tend to last and don't get lumpy. We have these in our BnB and everyone seems to be happy with them. The only other suggestion would be to plant a few nice leafy plants along the right hand side of the back fence (where the tall palm and tea tree are) ... to cover the ugly sheds next door. The Sunrise wall is nice, but isn't the main view from inside. We had a rainy morning when we stayed and it would have been a lot nicer with a few soft plants to look at, whilst sitting in the lounge room looking out through the main sliding door. Other than those couple of things, the place was great and good value, especially given the spaciousness. Many thanks Doug and Sandra ... sorry we didn't get to say goodbye before we left

Extra treats on arrival, food, juice etc.

Arrived in the pouring wet rain to be warmly greeted by Doug. The accommodation was warm and cosy and a real home away from home. Very inviting, peaceful and relaxing. Wished we’d have booked to stay longer and couldn’t extend due to other guests checking in. Top notch place! Highly recommend!

Would be nice to have a list of recommended takeaways/ restaurants/ cafes in the ‘Welcome Guest Book’ particularly as we’d been touring around sightseeing all day and were pretty tired and exhausted when we arrived and it was a real effort searching up online trying to work out where to go.

Shower over the bath

The room was very clean and the hosts provided snacks and breakfast.

Shower pressure and flow was disappointing. After a long days work and needing a hot shower I was disappointed due to the lack of pressure and flow. I was cold standing under the shower as I could not heat up due to the lack of flow and the room was cold due to winter time temperature.
