Opstal Stay

Had the best and most relaxing stay! Luxury in the middle of nowhere - such a treat! We were greeted with fresh farm bread and fantastic wine! Will definitely be back!

The location and views are spectacular. The chalet is spacious and modern and has everything you need for self catering. There is a grocery store only 10 minutes away for supplies.

This was an outstanding place to stay. We loved the mix of being able to cook / braai oneself, bringing what one wanted but also being able to order a braai set and salads, as well as picking up dinner late afternoon one day. The braai pack was generous and meat was good. The potato salad was amazing. The views from the place were just lovely, especially the mountains, although slightly less so all the vineyards (I couldn't help thinking of the water consumption but hey, it's a wine growing area). The houses are nestled in the fynbos, which is stunning. We stayed 3 nights and went to the Karoo Botanical gardens which were a disapointment, as the views from it are of town, and the walks were closed. Better, visit some local vineyards or even better, go on the walks (if not too hot) just around the back of the guest houses, which meander all over the valley. We loved the hot tub and enjoyed it cool during the hot day. Our hosts were very friendly and helpful and we really appreciated the welcome bottle of wine and bread and jam - it was all so lovely. They came to settle us in and asked us to keep the doors closed due to visiting mice, which we did as we did see one after the first braai. No big hassle. We visited du Toitskloof which has a nice cafe and the best pies ever, according to my pie eating husband who LOVES South African pies. We also passed by Slaghoek cellar and walked a bit, but there seemed to be some sewage problem near the vines so we got out of there. We walked around the farm at Opstal, at the back route, and ate there. All lovely. We stay in the highest guest house with mountain view, but I think next time I might try one of the guest houses more nestled in the trees, both stunning! Just loved this place. I think even in winter you could find it charming.

Only thing is open plan bathroom with the bedroom, not so great hearing someone else on the toilet, but hey, the place was stunning and we organised ourselves :)

Best views and immaculate property . Spacious and well equipped. One of our favorite cabins!
