Appartamento Calmo 3DX

The apartment is exactly what is seen on the pictures: it is spacious and has a fully equipped kitchen. The location is very pleasant and is not only close to the beach, but also to a bakery, a fruit and vegetable seller, a delicatessen seller, and a fish seller. The whole building in dedicated to vacation rentals, and all the guests seem to be locals from the region. It is close to the Venice International Film Festival venue, as well as to the luxurious Excelsior beach hotel, where the first Film festival was held in 1932. Our host Audrey was available around the clock and was very helpful each time we contacted her.

Unfortunately the air conditioning worked intermittently, which was a big inconvenience during 30-degree weather. Our hosts tried to solve it, but as it was the holiday period it was difficult to find a technician who could come and repair it. The apartment had a few downsides, like the sewage smell in one of the bathrooms and the fact that the bathtub in the main bathroom has no curtain and the entire bathroom got wet if you took a shower. The wifi did not work in the entire apartment. In addition to this, something that potential guests have to be aware of which is independent from the apartment--and I wish we had known in advance--is that although the apartment is close to the beach, the beach is practically private, which means that you have to pay hefty sums of money to rent the fancy cabins that are lined along most beaches, since otherwise you cannot lie on the sand (you can, however, lie on the pier for free!). The cheapest option is to rent a parasol and two lounge chairs from about 45 euros from 2 pm to 7:30 pm for 2 people at the Excelsior Hotel. It is more expensive if you want to rent it for the entire day, or if it is a family. There is a private beach south of the apartment, but you have to walk around 10 minutes to get there, and it has no facilities (no showers or toilets, and no life guard service!). We ended up renting a nice little hut in the 4 Fontane Beach--which is about a 10-minute walk in the other direction--for a couple of days, from 2 to 8pm, for 35 euros per day for up to 6 people. Other than that, Lido is a very nice family vacation spot with beautiful beaches, and only a 10-minute boat ride to Venice.
