Crete Essence Villas - Makrygialos

Superb location - quiet but very close to all of the activities in the main part of the village. The added bonus for us we were able to take our two little dogs along as the property is dog friendly. A very warm welcome from the host.

We were excited about our stay in Ikaroa Villa being across from the beach. The communication with the host wasn't great. The day we arrived we messaged 2 times , about 7 hours and again 2 hours before our arrival and did not hear back about check in. We had to figure out how to make a phone call with our phone from another country as we arrived and didn't know which unit was ours, where to park, etc.. when we did meet the property owner they asked how we were going to pay and said we had to pay in cash. We were shocked as nowhere on the listing did it indicate payment was in cash. Other bookings we made for other properties indicated that clearly so we were quite sceptical, as a few times on Crete we had been charged more then the bill at restaurants and coffee shops. So we didn't have a good feeling about this. After communicating with customer service with booking.com we found out that this property owner could not take credit card payments, so we had to go find an ATM and get cash. That was an unfortunate experience.

The bed was not comfortable at all- we had very sore necks and backs every day. Other then that the room was fine. We cooked alot for ourselves and had to drive west to the next town for decent supply of groceries and bread, as the mini. Marts in Makry Gialos were not well stocked with vegetables.

Literally few steps from a beautiful beach; very well equipped (kitchen and cleaning utensils etc.); super friendly owner; easy parking; very close to shops and restaurants (5-minute walk; far enough not hear any noises 😉); outstanding view from the terrace - perfect for self made dishes 😊
