Säynätsalo Town Hall

The best place to enjoy the architecture designed by alvar aalto. Also, a good place to enjoy aalto's furniture. The owner was really kind and even came over to open the door for us to visit, even though the town hall was closed on the weekend.

We travel to see Aalto's buildings, therefore to be able to stay in one was amazing!

bathroom shower is not separated, but I get it is normal in Finland.

If what you are looking for is AALTO, there is no better place than the Townhall. It feels really special and not only gives you a good feeling of Aaltos mind but also helps you understand better Finnish people and their culture. Unmissable opportunity to overnight in a masterpiece. Included a very good guided tour to the town hall by Alvar Aalto. In general, good services, furniture partially original or respectful, good cleaning, attention to sustainability.

My mattress was not the best and no way to make the bedroom really dark but these were minor issues.

For anyone interested in the works and architecture of Alvar Aalto, a visit to his iconic Saynatsalo Town Hall is a must - even better if you can stay in one of the original guest rooms. Harri, who manages the town hall has a wealth of information and is eager to talk about the building and Aalto’s career on a guided tour. He also takes guests to Aalto’s Muuratsalo Experimental House a short distance by car or cycle, or boat ride across the lake. Although basic, the accomodation had all we needed for our short stay, with comfortable beds and bedding, a small kitchen and shower room, and cupboard shelves & hanging space for clothes. Breakfast is available at the excellent cafe ‘Aabakery' on the ground floor. There is also a supermarket across the road if you want to self cater or choice of local restaurants. The Alvar Aalto museum and other of his architectural works are only a few minutes drive away in Jyvaskyla. The quiet town of Saynatsalo with it's fabulous Town Hall is the perfect location to stay and a great opportunity to experience his work first hand.

Wonderful stay! The host is very kind and a wonderful resource for all things Aalto. It was a treat to stay in an architectural masterpiece. There is a lovely cafe on site.

Everything was really nice!! The apartment was comfortable and well appointed and the location was ideal. There was also a lovely coffee shop right in the building.
