"Fantastic location at edge of old town, great apartment (just need a hot shower!)"

7.0

Fantastic location, very handy for airport bus, right on edge of old town, many restaurants etc in area. Very well presented property, comfortable beds. Generous supply of minor items in kitchen, good internet, TV etc., good a/c

Hot water system is solar and the supporting immersion heater is not functioning- queried this with host and was advised that the hot water would come if we run enough water. It did not. Probably ok in summer, but I cannot recommend this place for the winter months!! This place is one of the best- but without hot water I would not stay again!

"For young backpackers only."

3.0

Drop off and pick up are about 30-40 meters at the parking lot near Archaeological Museum. The picture sent to us by the owner the day before we arrived showed a green door between white wall and dark wall. That's it. It was not like that when we arrived at 16:00. The entrance to the apartment is actually in the back wall of Kosmima Gold & Silver. The proprietor of Kosmima was very unhappy she had to move her jewelry displays away from the door so we could get in. It is very inconvenient going in and out especially when the shops are open. This green door merely opens again to the outside where one is confronted with 25 narrow stairs that have a 180° turn in them. We had to carry our suitcases up those tight, windy stairs. That's hazard #1. It is completely inappropriate for anyone with a large suitcase let alone two older visitors. Once the struggle of hauling up two large suitcases was finished we saw a nicely decorated living space with lots of furnishings UNTIL we walked to the kitchen where, at its back, there is a 28 cm step up to the bathroom. This is the most worrisome hazard of all; hazard #2. I've never seen any apartment or hotel room that is built on two levels such as this one. I am 80 years old and it posed the most dangerous living situation I've ever encountered. We have never seen steps inside a supposedly one-level apartment, certainly not one almost a foot tall. Then there is another small step up to small back bedroom that has two twin beds both of which have broken mattresses. The front bedroom is spacious with a king bed. The combination living-dining room is early 20th century style and there is a fan if you need such. The sofa is extremely hard; it must be a sleeper sofa. The WiFi was weak but adequate. There are plenty of outlets around the room. The bathroom is not well kept and too small. The shower floor is extremely slick with no anti-skid covering and no hand-holds. That is hazard #3.

Entrance in the back of shops. Narrow stairs on the outside of the building. One-foot tall step from kitchen to bathroom and back bedroom. Small step up to the back bedroom, Twin bed mattresses are broken in back bedroom. Shower floor is very slick and dangerous.

"Highly recommended & perfectly located"

9.0

Excellent communication with the owners at all times. Flat perfectly located for sightseeing, eating out, shopping. Thoughtfully appointed with almost anything that might be needed during one's stay (eg, kettle, coffee machine, microwave, plenty of towels & bedding, and so much more) and cold water in the fridge! Spotlessly clean.

Armchairs & sofa were too hard and uncomfortable.

"Perfect place in city center!"

10.0

The appartment is perfect. There is everything you may need if you forgot to buy something - from coffee and tea to olive oil, spices and cleaning materials. Its a big plus that the place is located in the center and there is a good payed undergroud parking quite close.

"A Great Base for Knossos and visiting the town of Heraklion"

8.0

As soon as we arrived at Marianthi’s House, we felt part of the local community since it is tucked between two shops. As our taxi driver did not know where our street was located, we asked him to drop us off at the Heraklion Archaeological Museum which is about 50 yards from Marianthi’s House. From the museum we easily found our street and then with the help of the friendly shopkeepers we found the door to the house. We climbed a few steep steps to enter the spacious and bright accommodation. The kitchen was fine and equipped for a short stay. We found both bedrooms comfortable and the bathroom was fine for our needs. The flat is very convenient for bus stops and taxi ranks, shops, and all the sights of Heraklion Old Town. The bus stop for Knossos was so near that we did not have to cross a road! Well placed for walks to town centre and seafront. We particularly enjoyed our two meals at The Minos nearby.

However, it would have been useful to have had an information leaflet e.g. where to take the rubbish, where the nearest supermarket is and recommended restaurants etc.
