A lovely place to stay! As we were early in the year there were not really any dinner options other than stone soup or rice, however the breakfast was wonderful!!

Such a unique property with the kindest staff. They made us a dinner of authentic Portuguese soup that was the best soup I think I've ever had. Would recommend it highly.

Marchanta is a horse farm on the Camino route and well suited for walkers who want to break up the long walk into Santarem. We had a large apartment in a converted barn with a bedroom and bathroom on a mezzanine. There's a well equipped kitchen and a dining and seating areas with a pellet fuelled log burner. The apartment was tidy, clean and slightly quirky. There were nice gardens and an outdoor pool although this wasn't in use.

There was a helpful receptionist/manager who explained the bar and restaurant weren't open either (we visited in March 2025) and offered a 'pilgrim's menu' of frozen food for 12 euro including a drink. They had soup and duck rice and we thought we would get both of these which would represent good value but it was actually soup or duck rice. The portions weren't big so we went to bed hungry. Breakfast was served in a breakfast box costing 25 euros for the two of us. We thought this was expensive and opted not to have this. Food options in Porto De Muge are very limited so Marchanta has a 'captive audience'. When we got up the next morning, we found there was no hot water for our showers! The receptionist wasn't available until later so we put up with cold showers before our long walk to Santarem. We contacted the receptionist to make sure she was aware of the water problem. This really shouldn't happen and she offered us compensation should we visit again. Although it's a nice place we don't think it offers good value as it stands.

Hmm, well as a pilgrim walking early in the season of course the restaurant was closed; I was the only guest that night, and there were no places to eat nearby. The lovely staff did serve me a heated frozen dinner with bread and olives ... and a free bottle of nice red wine; no complaints here! 😁
