Pen Bryn Shepherd Hut

Lovely, cosy and well-kept little place - perfect for one or two people and for Hay festival. There’s a fridge, toaster and kettle and the owners left us a few bits (milk, Welshcakes) to snack on. There’s a fire pit and indoor fire. The bed is very comfortable with plenty of blankets and pillows.

The shower does run hot and then cold but we discovered that if you turn it to the top heat, that prevents it from happening.

The view, chirping birds, bleeting sheep, and peaceful surroundings would be worth the stay even if you had to sleep on bare ground under a tarp! Cute little hut, nicely equipped with outdoor fire pit and indoor wood stove. Great pub a short drive away. Not too far from Hay-on-Wye.

Water heater is a bit touchy for getting shower temperature right.

The location is what you pay for with a view to die for. The accommodation is very small but it helps if you can spend most of your time outside. It was cold and dry when we stayed so we wrapped up in blankets and sat outside most of the time. The fire pit is great for keeping warm and cooking. The garden is secure so was great for our dog.

The bed was very small (we are a tall couple) and we couldn't stretch our legs out.

Wonderful location just outside Hay on Wye, with the most stupendous view over the Wye valley from the hut. The hut is within a safe and enclosed field, which was fantastic for our dog. Well equipped with two burners, fridge, sink etc. so that you can cook for yourself if needed (no oven), great bathroom. Lovely outdoors space.

Bed is elevated, so a little hard to get into at night. Actually a little stool would be a helpful addition. For information, the car parking space is a short walk away, not a major issue, but just helpful to know. The 'pin' location from booking.com takes you to around 200m away, and it wasn't immediately apparent I wasn't in the right place. Just a few more details on how to find it would be really helpful.

The location was incredible, the photos really cannot do it justice. It was idyllic and just so peaceful. Such a large open space but was fenced so the dogs were able to run freely. Beautiful location and very well maintained.
