Amazing time, unique experience great host

It is really an experience, there are many thing you never seen it, but here, you not just looking at it, but to try it. The place is very rustic and basic, but the host make you feel comfortable and relax, He is very details and make you feel like being home. The most touching is teach you make rice ball in the morning is to prepare for your lunch to bring along (with sauce, chopstick, napkin and seaweed prepare with a carry bag) Too many things to mention, you should go and experience yourself Note: Give yourself more time, come early and leave later if possible.

Is a mixed feeling here, would be happy if the toilet can be more modernised, But if it is modernised, then it lost the original style and experience.

Our generous and charming host, Shino-san, who was full of ceremonies and rituals and who guided us around the Iya valley in his campervan.

We were unlucky to arrive after a flood which had cut off the running water. Luckily it came back on in time for us to enjoy his lovely hot tub. Toilet was primitive, but having read the reviews we were prepared.

Overall a fabulous experience and insight into Iya life.

Our four-day stay at Kajiy Iya Romantei with Shino-San was the highlight of our month in Japan. He was the perfect host; attentive, engaging, a great sense of humor, and a wonderful cook. The clever ceremonies were fun, the “sake cave” was fantastic, and the property was great and relaxing. We watched the moon rise each night from the small wood-fired soaking tub, and hand-fed the birds from the deck while enjoying our morning coffee. If you are into an authentic Japanese village experience while exploring the Iya valley I would highly recommend a stay at Kajiy Iya Romantei. We would love to come back.

The accommodation is a traditional Japanese farmhouse in Iya valley. It's location is especially good if you want to explore the inner part of Iya Valley. It can easily be reached by bus from Oboke or Awaikeda train station (it's actually the same bus). But the host can also pick you up from Oboke train station if you arrange with him in advance. It's recommended to stay at least two nights to fully enjoy the landscape and explore the valley. The host will involve you in several activities around the farmhouse like chopping wood or prepare rice on a traditional cooker. And he can drive you around if you don't come with your own car. Although there are buses to get in and out of the valley, they are too infrequent to use them to explore several spots on one day. The farmhouse is simple. But that's part of the experience. In return you can enjoy the beauty of the Iya valley. Especially in the evening and at night there is a quiet and peace that you won't find in other places anymore.

It could be a bit more tidy and cleaned up.

We had an amazing stay with Shino-San. The house is full of character and charm with amazing views of the valley. We were made so welcome and had a lot of fun. Shino-San makes this experience unforgettable, making sure every moment is special.
