The experience (wood chopping and making fire), the bath, the dinner/food and most of all, the sake room! So much sake and so much to taste and try. Shino-san is so hospitable and fun. He'll make you laugh, guaranteed.

Nothing really, this is an experience and Shino-san does anything to make you feel welcome and comfortable. It can be cold in his house, but there are plenty options to make it warm (heated blankets, warm blankets etc).

At 2 degC, imagine staying in a traditional guest house, chopping your wood to prepare fire to cook your own rice, soaking in a hot tub of water heated by firewood, having dinner cooked in the central hearth in the house, enjoying sumptuous dinner and drinking sake with a wonderful host. It’s all happening here. Just loved the aromatic burnt taste of rice cooked by the fire you make, huge collection of sake which you can sample. It’s the kind of holiday getaway experience that you can’t find elsewhere. Shino San makes sure you find your stay here fulfilling. highly recommended

This is not accommodation, it is an experience! Shino-san was an amazing host who looked after us exceptionally well. The house in which you stay is an original old house, halfway up the hill with fantastic views. You experience what it is like to live in the traditional way in such a house, including the meals. Shino-san is a good cook and has an extensive sake collection! The whole thing is an experience to be embraced and enjoyed. We certainly did and it will likely remain the highlight of our yet-unfinished trip to Japan. If you enjoy nature, the Iya Valley is just superb and Shino-san's place is a great base from which to explore it. He is the perfect host. Thoroughly recommended!

A very unique experience with a lovely host who taught us about traditional Japanese life .He was so much fun,kind and engaging and went out of his way to make our stay special
