Moinho do Comandante

The Moinho is located in a beautiful valley with lots of nature around. It is a very relaxing environment, you don't hear anything except for the birds and the river. Carlos is the best host you can imagine. He has lots of stories to tell, gives very useful hints, is always available for questions. And he makes a wonderful breakfast. The scrambled and fried eggs are made upon request. Every day he comes with another small surprise of local specialities. The appartement is very cosy, on cooler days the wood stove makes it nice warm. We totally felt at home. We enjoyed staying here a lot, thanks for everything!

You need to keep in mind that some of the listed equipment is not available in your private living area, such as washing machine, dryer, toaster, oven. You can use them in the communal breakfast room. As written, it is very cosy, with lots of blankets and carpets. There will be some sneezing if you are sensitive...

In short, Best stay ever. It's like having your private valley, far away from the mass tourism. Carlos is a great host, has lots of stories to share and is also a great source of places to visit. The breakfast is massive, whith something new every day. If you like to be a bit off the beaten track, you will love this.

It was flawless, seriously.

It was not a hotel but a guesthouse with the loveliest hosts a person can ask for. There was a pond. There were ducks. It was a dream.

Nothing to dislike, really.

Everything about this place was just perfect, from the super-friendly hosts to the beautiful river passing just outside the windows. However, it's worth noting that having a car is essential for staying at this location.

Beautiful sourrounding and garden. Great hospitality. If you are looking for a quite relaxing place to find peace and gain refreshment from daily routine. This is the perfect place to be. Extraordinary breakfast aline your preferences with scrambled eggs a la Carlos. Exciting travel through the mountains of Madeira. Do all your shopping before arrival as the next supermarket is some way to go.

Carlos and Leonore are a most sweet, lovely couple that you can think of! They do everything to make you feel like home. Vegan friends, they offer a great vegan breakfast at request! The place is like a garden of Eden. All the delights of the northern Madeira are near. I wish that I could have stayed for a month!

beautiful location and very accommodating hosts

The location was very fantastic, but we think it requires a car. You are a part of nature. Surrounded by plants and flowers and a river. A bit like in the jungle. We are not usually into breakfast, but Carlos's breakfast was fabulous. We loved sitting in his kitchen and eating delicacies and hearing stories. His scrambled eggs were the best ever. Carlos an Leonor were very attentive to what you liked and there was always something new every day. Everything is not perfect, but it becomes when you have met Carlos and Elonor. They are so lovely people and they will do everything to make you feel good and at home. Thanks for making our visit so special :)
