Inn On Highlands

The Inn on Highlands is a peaceful retreat situated on a dam and surrounded by apple orchards, offering stunning views and a sense of calm. Perfectly located to explore the Elgin Valley, with the Elgin Railway Market just a short drive away. The rooms are cozy, with an amazing bed and excellent shower pressure. The warm and welcoming staff add to the experience. Ideal for quiet escapes, scenic walks, or simply relaxing by the water—a true hidden gem.

If I had to nitpick, I’d suggest adding extra plug points by the bed for convenience. (Two point plug) I brought my own, so it did not bother me. As a solo traveler, the single bedlamp was fine, but for couples, two lamps with stronger light would be great for nighttime reading. While the units are quiet and the neighbors are respectful, I would have preferred a bit more privacy on the deck and braai area. Next time, I’d consider booking a family unit that feels more secluded. Overall, it’s still a tranquil escape with warm, welcoming staff and a serene atmosphere—a true hidden gem.

Beautiful location, beautiful view, great dam for swimming and kayaking, lovely walks, nice helpful people, clean, comfy beds,

Cooking and dining equipment levels very limited (basic stuff missing like like veg peeler, coffee plunger, salt and pepper, oil, serving bowls and dishes, only 4 each of plates, forks, knives, etc, basic 2 plate cooker - made it all a bit of a challenge to prepare and share meals with the extended family), clothing storage very limited (no shelves or cupboards), braai grid too small for braai.

Awesome stay, had a blast with kayaks and swimming etc. Bass fishing was pretty slow but still managed to catch 8 fish for the 2 days we stayed.

The location was beautiful with great views and a tranquil dam

The booking information was misleading. It advertised cottages beside the dam but in fact they were not cottages, but a row of adjoining rooms that had rather thin walls. While each "cottage" had a braai, there were no full braai grids and you had to balance a camper grid over the coals.

Beautiful location. We enjoyed swimming in the dam. Lovely hosts who arrived on Christmas morning dressed in Santa outfits with a gift fo each cottage. Really thoughtful.
