"Relaxation Oasis on a Winery with Animal Therapy near Chiusi"

10.0

Absolutely EVERYTHING! The location was incredible. You felt like it was very far in the countryside but was only a short road up to the town. A massive PAM grocery store was only about 10 minute drive away. It is a working winery/olive oil farm with some goats, sheep, and a donkey that are all so sweet. The donkey is a very sweet gentle girl. They have a giant area on a hillside in which they can roam around and guests are free to go join them as long as they close the gate. Then there are pigs and ducks and chickens that are very noisy but our house was soundproofed so you only hear them out on the grounds - which utterly suited the rural farm. The house was absolutely wonderful. It was very spacious and had a private garden overlooking a beautiful olive grove. We were an odd group of myself, my father, and a family friend; but the house was big enough that we each had our own separate sleeping area (two bedrooms and the couch opened up to a bed). The kitchen was an annex to the original building and has windows on three sides, I loved cooking in it. I made saltimbocca one night with the fresh sage growing from the garden. The atmosphere of the historical house was very cosy. It is an active winery and we were lucky enough to visit in October when they were bringing batches of hand picked grapes to the winery and processed the grapes in their de-stemmer and crusher. It was very cool to see and not only were the staff happy to let us watch - they even brought over a carafe of freshly pressed grape juice for us to try. It was really interesting to see and made us so happy to be included. They make mostly red wines with some white but unfortunately had sold out for the season. That is a good sign to me if a winery is small but successful enough that they sell out before the next year's harvest is ready! Oh dear this was such a great place i've run out of room to praise!!

We were ready to go home by the time our trip ended - but if given the option to go back to San Gregorio we all would have been there in a heartbeat!

"Real agri-agro Turismo!"

9.0

Lovely location on the farm with all the animals (pigs, goats, sheep, donkey, peacock, chicken, cats, etc, you will hear them). The natural swimming pool is AMAZING-BEAUTIFUL (a bit of a walk 10min down on the domein but worth it). Very nice clean, comfortable and well equipped apartment (Piena). Very good wine. Beautiful domein surrounded with wine yards and olive trees !

Apartment Piena has no own terras/outside space. Apartment Piena is located next to where managers of Agri Turismo live, they are very discreet but gives less feeling privacy. And just downstairs the apartment is the office where owner is very day. That's next to the small terras seat. (But further away on land are various other seats/tables to use with all privacy)

"Do not make a reservation for the old and most expensive house."

6.0

It was nice to pick figs in the morning.

We were first staying in a very old house with bugs crawling around our feet. This house should not be rented out before a thorough refurbishment. We immediately protested and requested another place to stay, which we got 2 days later. The new house was clean, comfort was basic. The garden, while providing fresh figs, was completely unkept with rotten fruit all over the place. The swimming pool was first declared not to be used because of renovations due but the next day the spokesperson said it was all in order, despite the fluorescent green colour. I honestly dared not swim there. Furthermore we received no explanations at all, not about the house, not about the surroundings. How very disappointing, it could be turned into a beautiful place though.

"Very good"

8.0

Excellent location for seeing Tuscany and fantastic staff, very clean and a great wine tasting.

It’s very rustic (which is fine) but we thought it might be a lot easier to cook and eat at home, but the facilities meant it was easier and more comfortable to eat out.

"Pure relaxation in beautiful surroundings"

8.0

Quiet and peaceful. Beautiful surroundings and a great base to explore Tuscany & Umbria

The pool was a bit of a walk (but it was in a beautiful setting). The walk was through a goat enclosure and a wild flower meadow which was lovely…but sometimes it would have been nice to have the pool closer especially when the kids were desperate to jump in.

"Nature is all around you!"

8.0

You definitely need a car to get here as the farm is located 2 hrs from the Rome airport (FCO), 1 hr from Florence and Siena, 1hr 40 min from San Gimignano, 20 min from Montepulciano. We stayed in a villa (2 bedroom, 1.5 baths and kitchen) for 8 nights at the beginning of September. We had a nice patio with a table, chairs and an umbrella where we had our breakfast every morning. Beds were hard (we liked that). Pools and a lake are located away from the house with apartments and the villa (need to walk ~7-10 min by the area where animals, such as pigs, sheep, and chickens, live). Only hand soap is provided, so on the way from the airport we got paper towels, shampoo and body wash as well as some food. The supermarket is only 10 min drive from the farm. If you need an iron, request it in advance. The farm has a lot of fruit trees (cherry plum, figs, pomegranate) that we picked from. We did a private wine and cured meat tasting and it was amazing thanks to Simi who was taking care of us during our stay. If you are not afraid of insects (there are a lot of them as well as scorpios) and the farm life (think of animal noises when you wake up), want to be closer to the nature and experience the freshest air and beautiful views, I highly recommend you stay here.

Towels for the pool are not provided. This is why we never went for a swim. Bikes are provided upon the request but unfortunately one of them was very uncomfortable at all, so we didn't take them for a ride. No mosquito nets, so you can't open windows in the evening or at night (but there are airconditioners in the rooms).
