Set up well, super friendly host, good selection for breakfast, well equipped for activities, nice large well kept swimming pool even had a pool table

Pretty much a remote area with no bar/cafe

Avantos is a small, quaint village in a very rural area with lovely views. Our host was most gracious making sure all our needs were met despite being short staffed. Our room was very comfortable and breakfast was delicious. The village church has been designated a national treasure and well worth a visit. Eight kilometres away is a fantastic restaurant Maria Rita’s also with an historic element to it. A fantastic place to dine.

Be aware that there is an iron ring on the wall under the name plaque. Pull that when you arrive and you’ll get a warm welcome.

Very quaint authentic accommodation in the little town in the hills with a superb host and magnificent breakfast! Do make the effort to visit its worth it!

Excellent breakfast prepared fresh for our arrival. Mainly tasty local produce. Manu did the extra mile to make sure that we had everything to enjoy our stay although the weather was absolutely terrible (not his fault ;-)

The lousy weather

Manuel, Manuel and Manuel. He helped me a lot when my car battery died and he provided cables to start my car up with his jeep the day I had to leave and drive 400 kms south. Also, there is a town nearby -Mirandela-, where one can find car batteries, fix broken windows or groceries or all those crazy fast life things we may need from a city. He also told me a lot about oil -he has an olive business-, and gifted me with a bottle, and also offered olive bread for breakfast. It was extraordinary. You have to try it. I loved the library -empty all the time-, and the round path that surrounds the town to have strolls with my two dogs at sunset. The room didn´t have air conditioning, but it was comfortably cool despite August. I´m sure you can ask Manuel for a fan just in case. Also to use the pool at night and see the stars. It was magnificent and Manuel keeps the place clean, cozy, well-decorated, and running despite many families with kids.

When I arrived, everything was closed up. No way to reach Manuel to open the facility, until some elders told me about the doorbell... I couldn´t find it... so just to let you all know, it´s a round metal ring on the wall above the Casal de Castro plaque. Pull it and things will happen.
