Everything, the property is beautiful and well appointed - they have a wonderful swimming pool and hot tub, free coffee with a separate living room, the views of the duoro river and hillsides are incredible, and there are plants and trees everywhere. it’s a really nice property that is both modern while still being cozy and quaint

the property is amazing, but the staff is unwelcoming and overwhelming rude. upon arrival, the staff at the front desk seemed put out to be having to deal with us. We made a reservation and had dinner at their restaurant the night we stayed, and even though we arrived right on time, the male host seemed flustered and dismayed by our arrival, and gave us a gruff “what can I do for you??” when we walked in, and scowled as if he was upset that we were dining. Our server was also very rude, we ordered a cocktail and glass of wine, 2 appetizers, and 2 entrees and had no questions- and she literally looked at us and made sounds under her breath that made us both feel embarrassed and confused. She smirked at my girlfriend when she pronounced the name of a wine incorrectly. All of the food was delicious, zero complaints there, although it was 2X the cost of everywhere else we had been eating and the food wasn’t on any higher level (you are paying for the location and the view, but not the service) When we finally asked for our check after being left alone with the dessert menu for 30 minutes, it took another 40 minutes to produce a check. There were multiple servers and bussers clearing empty tables, cleaning glasses, and resetting them for the next day - yet they just kept walking by. We asked for the check 4 times during this time, they finally dropped it and the guy was very apologetic. The restaurant is very poorly managed. I was a restaurant server for over 10 years in many restaurants, and I am always patient and sympathetic if the staff is getting slammed, but they were not busy - just unorganized and unhappy. My girlfriend and I are easy going and friendly, and we arrived to the hotel and to the restaurant in a good mood. We have both found that the people of Portugal everywhere we’ve been are super nice, kind, friendly, helpful, and easy going (we spent time in Lisbon, Evora, Nazare, Sintra, Coimbra, Lagos) But the staff at Quinta de La Rosa are rude.

A truly exceptional stay. The atmosphere was relaxed, peaceful and authentic, with stunning views over the Douro Valley. The service throughout was warm, professional and genuinely welcoming without ever feeling formal or forced. The entire property felt beautifully integrated into the landscape and had exactly the kind of calm, understated luxury we were hoping for. We especially appreciated the relaxed atmosphere, excellent food and wine, and the overall feeling of being able to properly switch off and enjoy the surroundings.

Location and view

This hotel exceeded our expectations and I couldn't recommend more highly. It has all the amenities of any luxury hotel despite their initial message causing some anxiety about what we were getting ourselves into! They provided a hair dryer in the room, pool towels, robes and Molten Brown toiletries in the bathroom including hair conditioner which goes above lots of other hotels in itself. The rooms and all facilities were very clean and towels replaced daily. The staff were so lovely and helpful, and although they do say in their initial booking message that they won't help with transfers etc they were happy to pre-book our taxi back to the train station for us. The location is great, an easy walk into Pinhao which is uphill on the way back but all paved and not overly challenging for those that are able-bodied. We happily walked back after dinner at 10/11pm with no issues. We stayed in Amarela House and again were a bit worried as they make the walk sound difficult, this is a bit uphill but very manageable and only takes 2-3 mins so nothing to worry about.

Nothing to do with the hotel but there are very limited taxis in Pinhao and all of the 3-4 times we walked past the taxi rank near the station there were none around so if you're planning to arrive by train with bags I'd try to pre-book somehow. Any other time without bags the walk to the hotel is fine!

Everything was beautiful! From the stunning location to the wonderful staff, accommodations, wine and food!! Truly exceptional!
