Chapman House

We came to Put-in Bay for a wedding. Our reservation was for the Champan House and I had spoken to Danny, the owner, a couple of times prior to our arrival. While driving to Ohio, we learned of pending bad weather that was not going to allow the ferry to run it's normal schedule the following day. Danny assured us if we were not able to get to the island we would not be charged. We made it to Port Clinton the night before and were able to make the only the only ferry that left at 6:30 Friday morning. Danny picked us up at the ferry and we dropped our luggage at the Chapman House. He graciously offered to have us come to their Bed and breakfast property to have breakfast and hang out there until the room was able to be cleaned for our stay. We then met Mattea, Danny's wife, who was just as gracious a host! She left to clean the room, and we headed into town to see what there was to do. We then learned a bit later that the water from the easterly winds across Lake Erie flooded the road between the 2 properties, standing both Mattea and our luggage. She was eventually to make it back and they offered us room at their Bed and Breakfast as we would then at least be able to get to the activity of the city. We stayed in unit 3 which is a 2 bedroom, 2 bath unit that feels very spacious. It could easily host 2 couples for a trip. It has a full kitchen as well as a large deck outside the room. What could have been an awful experience was made into a great one because of the way Danny and Mattea handled it. They were so accommodating and helpful. They were also incredibly fun to hang out with and get to know!! I would highly recommend the Champan House and them as hosts!!

My husband and I stayed at Chapman House for a weekend getaway early this summer, We couldn’t have been more pleased! We stayed in Unit 3–extremely spacious, impeccably clean, perfect location (10 min walk to downtown, yet nestled in a quieter section of the island) and the owners couldn’t have been nicer! You’ll enjoy having your morning coffee outside on the deck overlooking the trees with a view to the water. The full kitchen is nicely equipped, should you decide to stay in to enjoy happy hour or dinner. Space abounds in these units. Ours included one private, queen bedroom with bath on the main floor. We loved the charming spiral staircase leading upstairs to the open loft with room for another 2-4 more guests + a 2nd full bath! The living room also features a sleeper sofa. The unit is tastefully decorated in fresh, nautical colors and the baths provide travel toiletries for your convenience. One feature we discovered is that all upstairs units can be connected—perfect for groups or family events. I highly recommend Chapman House—a hidden gem, but not for long! Looking forward to a return visit!

Had a great time with a few family's at The Chapman House. Adjoining rooms had nice kitchens, access to an outdoor grill, and great second story deck to hang out on. Definitely recommend staying here.

The Chapman House is the perfect setup for a group of any size. There are multiple apartments connected to one another, with plenty of sleeping accommodations and full bathrooms in each unit. Additionally, the kitchens are fully stocked with essential cooking tools and there’s a grill onsite, so there will be no issue if you’d like to do meals on the property. Finally, the location cannot be beat. It’s a few step walk away from a gorgeous sunset over the bay and walking distance/short golf cart ride into town. Close enough to the action for convenience it far enough away for a peaceful and quiet evening. Highly recommend!

The Chapman House was a perfect location for our family and friends to enjoy a summer weekend together. Our group took over the four upstairs rooms that all connect. They were huge! Plenty of space and sleeping room. Perfectly clean living space and comfortable amenities. We were able to use our kitchens and the grill for nightly dinners on the deck and after dinner we walked over to the monument to watch the sunset. We can’t wait to come back!

If you plan on going to Put-In-Bay, Ohio I highly recommend staying at the Chapman House (near the Perry Monument). It is in a semi-hidden area and thus nice and quiet. The house looks brand new. The studio room we stayed in was very nice, very pretty, and clean. It is only 5-10 minute walk to downtown. Maybe 2-3 minutes by golf cart. The room has two large couches with lots of pillows, a super comfortable king size bed. Kitchen was stocked with dinnerware. Two awesome rocking chairs and a large shower with seat, if needed. Very high ceilings and nice wooden floors with awesome shiplap walls. Danny, our host, was courteous and sent me text messages explaining where free bicycles were located and where to find golf carts for use. He kindly suggest we text if we needed anything.

We spent a long weekend at the beautiful Chapman House with two other families. The owners were great hosts and very accommodative. The property sits in an ideal location away from town with lovely sunset views. There is a gas grill and outdoor seating that made for memorable family dinners. The whole weekend was majical! I highly recommend. We look forward to our next visit!

Great place and location! We rented the the 3 condos for 4 families and it felt like we rented a big house. Plenty of space for cooking and relaxing, with CoVId we grilled (they have one in the property) and entertained friends that was all there at the same weekend. The place is clean and the owners are really nice. We will definitely come back every summer!

I LOVED this little piece of island paradise. The suite was perfect and private offering 2 bathrooms, a bedroom, a pullout sofa bed, and a loft sleeping area with a queen bed and a daybed. The kitchen was full of everything one might need - pots, pans, toaster, blender, a Keurig, a full oven/stove, fridge (with ice maker in the freezer), microwave, dishwasher, and a lovely set of dishes plus utensils and glasses/mugs. There was plenty of soap and sanitizer including dishwashing soap and dishwasher detergent. The beds were comfy with crisp white sheets and comforters. The television was a smart TV with all of the viewing apps available. I had to work one day while we were there and the internet was fast and reliable. In the evening, we took one-minute strolls to the break wall and sat on it to watch the sunset. We also watched some lightning streak the sky behind the Perry Monument one night - very cool. We stayed for three nights and it was difficult to leave. I plan on booking it again very soon for next summer because once folks realize how clean, adorable and safe it is to enjoy the island with loved ones in this delightful private suite I know the availability will become limited. I actually thought about not reviewing it in an attempt to keep it a secret a little longer and to keep the odds of booking a suite there next summer in my favor, but I admire the proprietor and what he's done with this place too much to neglect to review Chapman House.
